News from Interim Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:
 
Today we celebrate the last day of the 2018-2019 school year and the incredible achievements of your students. It has been a year filled with athletic and academic state championships, award-winning fine arts programs, continued national ranking as a top 1% high school in the nation, and a state ranking as one of only four school districts to receive the highest rating from the Texas Education Agency. Yesterday, for the first time in school history, Lovejoy High School earned the distinction of the State of Texas UIL 5A Academic Championship title. I hope you will take time to read this news which is shared below. Thank you for your continued support and the opportunity you give us each day to educate your children.
 
Tomorrow we will celebrate the Class of 2019. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM at the Allen Event Center. Doors open at 9:00 AM and attendees will be required to go through a metal detector and security screening prior to entering the Event Center. You may click here for detailed information regarding the Allen Event Center guidelines, including their bag policy. If you are unable to attend the event, but would like to watch the ceremony, you may visit:
 
 
The stream will go live once the ceremony begins.
 
The State of Texas, Texas Education Agency, and other entities (Texas Association of School Boards, Texas Association of School Administrators, etc.) are diligently working to interpret HB3 and the impact on districts throughout the State of Texas. We do not currently have final numbers, but estimate the loss in state revenue will remain at approximately $3 million. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive additional information.
 
It has been an honor to serve as your Interim Superintendent over the last several months. The Board of Trustees will name a lone finalist for the Superintendent on June 4 and will approve and introduce the new Superintendent to the community at the June 26 board meeting. I hope to see you there as we welcome our new Superintendent to Lovejoy ISD.

UIL Academic Achievements
The UIL Academic season came to an exciting conclusion yesterday at the UIL Speech and Debate State Tournament. Four students represented Lovejoy High School. Ariel Kokoricha , a junior, finished in the top 12 in the state in Poetry Interpretation. Luke Wheatley , a junior, finished 3rd in Prose Interpretation. Tajvir Singh , a sophomore, placed 3rd in Informative Speaking. And, finally, Collins Morgan was named the Lincoln-Douglas Debate State Champion. Not only did Collins win every round, when the rounds had multiple judges he won every ballot - it was a perfect finish. With these results and the team of Tajvir Singh and Andrew Mao winning the UIL CX State Championship in March, Lovejoy won the State Championship Speech Team Award.

After tallying the results across all UIL Academic contests at the state tournament which included impressive finishes in One Act Play, Journalism, Computer Science, and Speech and Debate, Lovejoy won the State of Texas UIL 5A Academic Championship with a total of 127 points. The runner up finished 13 points behind Lovejoy. We could not be more Lovejoy Proud!

Lovejoy parent Dr. Helen Kim-James opened Fairview Dermatology in May 2018. She was born and raised in Dallas, is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, and is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. We are excited to announce Dr. Kim-James’ partnership with Lovejoy ISD.

Lovejoy High School Competes in VEX Robotics State Championships

Congratulations to the Lovejoy High School Xtreme Engineering team for its results in the VEX Robotics 2019 State Championships on June 24 and 25 at the Comerica Center in Frisco. The team competed with two robots and placed 13th with the 1082C bot and 6th place with the 1082B bot in the qualifying rounds. 1082C finished as a quarterfinalist and 1082B was a semifinalist. The teams also finished 7th and 8th place in the skills portion of the competition.
 
The students competing in the state final were:  Chase Barnes  , Anthony Ciletti ,  Brenden Diaz ,  Jackson Fink ,  and  Alyssa Vaughn .

A Message from the Director of Fine Arts

What are the measures of success in fine arts you might ask? The many accolades like trophies, state or national rankings, and AP scores that are forever associated with the 2018 – 2019 school year? The incredible show of talent at the Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival? Or perhaps it’s the interesting content you learned from a very favorite teacher in the fine arts area you love? Or, simply is it the tremendous growth each individual gained while pursuing their artistic passion through their course in a Lovejoy Performing or Visual Arts course? No matter how you define success in the fine arts, I want to assure you that every experience in a performing or visual arts class this year - was second to none.
 
It is a privilege to work with the finest educators in the state, teaching students to become more deeply embedded in their passions that can only be met in a fine arts classroom. We are deeply saddened by the states’ failure to adequately fund our district's programs, but, like the mythological Phoenix, we too shall rise and continue to offer the most amazing programs in the arts to our students in years to come. We are Lovejoy, it is what we do.
 
Thank you for your investment in the arts programs in Lovejoy ISD this school year, whether you were a family member, a student, or just a patron stopping by – we appreciate your continued support of the Lovejoy Performing and Visual Arts programs.

Deadline for interested search firms to submit their proposal.
