2018 seems to have flown in quite quickly this year. It feels likes just yesterday the holidays were here. It's almost like we need to take a deep breath and slow down for a minute. I almost let January get by me there is so much going on. Before I knew it, January was over!

Butterball Building will now be home to Buddig
In less than six months, the butterball building was sold to the Buddig family business. This is exciting news for the community as several hundred new jobs will be created.
During one of meetings with Bob Buddig and the CFO, Dan Wynn, it was rewarding to know Montgomery, Illinois was not a stranger to Mr. Bob Buddig. Having worked with a variety of family owned businesses in Montgomery such as Fox River Foods, now Performance Foodservice-Chicago and Gusto Packing, the Buddig family felt right at home in Montgomery. The Buddig family is a family owned business and will be celebrating their 75th year anniversary this year. We are extremely proud they have chosen Montgomery for an additional home.

At our January Board meeting, The MEDC made a few changes to the officers on the board. Neil Schlupp will stay on as Chairman, with Jason Hanson from First National switching spots with Scott Vickers from Old Second National Bank. Jason will be the Vice President and Scott will be the secretary. Don Kalish will stay on as the MEDC treasurer. Special thanks to everyone for being a part of our organization.
In addition to the Board positions, Mark
Baum has asked to step down from the Board after serving for more than six and a half years. Mark has retired awhile back and has been enjoying time out of town a lot so he thought it was time to step down. Thank you Mark, You will be missed.
Stepping up to the Board is Bob Miller, from Performance Food Services-Chicago. Performance recently changed their name from Performance Foods- Fox River to Performance Services-Chicago. Bob is the VP of Operations for Performance and has been in the food industry over three decades and will be a great asset to the MEDC Board. He is looking forward to being a part of the future development of the community.
Jim Miller was also added to the MEDC Board. Jim is the sales manager for Old Dominion Freight Lines and has been pretty active in the MEDC since they built their new location in Montgomery. Jim is responsible for three sales offices and is very proud to be with Old Dominion over 13 years. His photo will be coming soon. Additional information can be found here:

|
VVF will be downsizing their operations at the Montgomery Plant. Approximately 250 positions will be lost, relocated or dissolved as VVF eliminates their manufacturing line of bar soaps. I was always a fan of their cranberry bar soap. It always made my bathroom smell like cranberry's. They will continue a variety of their products but bar soap will not be one of them.
The plant will not close down, but there could be plenty of room to accommodate another user in the future. VVF has invested several million dollars over the years to their rail yard which actually has over 18 loading docks for rail cars and can accommodate as many as 100 rail cars. This could be a great feature for another user as rail has become very popular in this region over the years.
VVF has always been a great neighbor to Montgomery. Even if they were never officially annexed into the village, they always supported the efforts of the community and the Montgomery Development Corporation. We wish them nothing but the best for the future and know we will continue our strong relationship with them as these changes unfold. VVF article |

Effective, April 30, 2018, Police Chief Daniel C. Meyers will be retiring after a distinguished 33 year career in law enforcement.
Meyers expressed his appreciation for his long and rewarding career. He leaves Montgomery with many great memories.
Help us extend best wishes and appreciation for all he has done to serve our community!
