Mud on the Mountain
Some
of our office athletes have been training for races and competitions recently, including the Pittsburgh Marathon and Mud on the Mountain at Seven Springs.
T
he day of the Pittsburgh Marathon might have been a little dreary, but it did nothing to quell the excitement of our runners. Noel Rangel ran the whole marathon! Amy Curry, Jeremy Bowlby (not in photos), and Morgan M
arsic ran the half marathon. We ar
e proud of their hard work and positivity!
Mud on the Mountain is a 7.7 mile mud run with 31 obstacles along the route, located on the ski slopes of Seven Springs. It is a test of strength and endurance, but it is mostly a lot of fun! This is the second year for Landau participants, including Amy Curry, Dave Curry, Bethany Sidun, Mike Nehnevajsa, and Randy Krueger.

Rockefeller Neuroscience Ins

Landau Building Company completed an addition to the atrium and other interior renovations of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI) Center for Innovation, located in Morgantown, WV. Once steel was erected on April 15th, the renovations were fast-tracked for completion in time to hold a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, May 15th - just 30 days later. We want to congratulate Project Manager Jen Landau, Project Engineer Doug Brenneman and Superintendent Jonathan Muzina for their amazing leadership. It took a heroic effort from all involved to finish for the event. Some of the highlights of the incredible pace are detailed below.
- Five weeks were shaved from the construction schedule
- Steel erection to grand opening in 30 days
- Two new elevators installed, inspected and ready for use in 27 days
- Architectural features in atrium:
- Grand staircase with ceramic tile, stainless steel and wood railings
- Cantilevered second floor overlooking two-story glass enclosed entrance
- Glass floor on part of second floor to showcase 30' mural
The renovations, which prepared for the arrival of Dr. Ali Rezai, a world-renowned neuroscientist and neurosurgeon, included 1,448 SF on the first floor, 2,331 SF on the second floor, and 3,527 SF on the third floor. The scope of work included the Human Performance Research Center and the LIFU MRI suite where they use transcranial magnetic stimulation to treat disorders ranging from Opioid addiction to fighting Alzheimer's disease. The atrium addition features a grand entrance with a 30' mural entitled "The Boundless Brain" created by Dr. Greg Dunn and Dr. Brian Edwards, which is a hyperdetailed representation of a quarter million neurons of a sagittal slice of the human brain.
The institute was founded by Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, West Virginia senator 1985 - 2015, who was one of the speakers at the dedication.
WVU Medicine created a great video highlighting the institute's story, which you can watch

Three Major Projects
at UPMC Horizon Shenango Campus
Landau recently completed three major projects at UPMC Horizon Shenango Campus, located in Farrell, PA.
1. The
Emergency Department
Expansion involved a 5-phased, 7,900 SF renovation to the active department, including a new entrance, air handling unit, exam rooms, nurses stations, and other area upgrades.
2. The 19,000 SF OR/Perioperative Anesthesia Renovations were completed in 8 phases within the active operating room suite of the hospital. Pre/post op areas, waiting rooms, and staff areas were also updated.
3. The
Cancer Center Addition was a 7,160 SF, one-story addition to the existing cancer center at the front of the hospital. The new cancer center includes 16 new infusion bays, 4 exam rooms, and an expanded waiting area.
The hospital remained in full operation during construction. All three of the projects were completed on time and within budget. UPMC Horizon Project Manager Gary Bozzo had nothing but praise for the Landau team. Great job Project Manager Andrew Marsic, Project Engineer Selma Voljevica, and superintendents Cory Bruce and Justin Schoeffel!
