Enjoy These Upcoming Opportunities

Michael Strech, President and CEO |
When building our businesses, we look for areas to grow connections, learn new information and try new things. The next few weeks are filled with opportunities to get involved and get back a lot from the North State BIA.
Beginning tomorrow, in the Moscone Center in San Francisco is the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) put on by the California Building Industry Association. This yearly event offers so much to industry professionals from educational opportunities, and discovering new, innovative products to creating connections with like-minded people from across the nation. It is not too late to sign up for PCBC and enjoy energy, advanced thinking and inspiration in San Francisco.
Next week we will be enjoying one of the largest events of the year, the Chili Cook Off at the Palladio in Folsom. This is a member favorite event and for good reason. The Chili Cook Off is an enjoyable event, but more so, it is a place where genuine connections are made with local industry professionals. There is ample opportunity to network and build your business, meet new friends and enjoy the start of summer!
Our thanks to Harry Elliott for once again allowing the BIA to utilize the Palladio courtyard Piazza. The location really makes this event special.
Finally, the Political Action Committee's Builders and Brews event is happening on June 13th at the Cliff House in Folsom. This event is all about the connections that are made and strengthening our PAC. Builders and Brews only happens a few times a year but is extremely important to the growth of our PAC, as well as connecting elected officials with our industry.
If you miss a BIA event there is always another one right around the corner, but these next few weeks are booked with some of the best opportunities to connect with professionals that will help grow your business and make the lasting relationships that make us succeed. This is your chance to get the most out of the BIA. We will see you soon!

SMUD All-Electric Residential Workshop
Last week SMUD hosted an All-Electric Smart Homes seminar to introduce the building and design community to incentive programs to encourage the design and building of all-electric homes. The goal is to encourage efficient electric technologies for heating, hot water and cooking that allow homeowners to take advantage of renewable energy generated on site and by SMUD to reduce dependence on fossil resources. North State BIA is working with SMUD to have a similar workshop for our membership. For an overview of an

PG&E President Acknowledges Hook-up Delay Problem
The Assembly Utilities & Energy Committee recently conducted an oversight hearing that focused on the management of PG&E and how the utility plans to move forward after the recent wildfires and bankruptcy filing. Speaking on behalf of PG&E was the utility's new CEO & President, William "Bill" Johnson. After an hour of heated questioning, Mr. Johnson made the following statement: "I'm focused on the short term for the moment. There are a number of issues that need to be fixed. One of the big issues we have to fix is hooking up new customers. It's taking weeks and in some cases months. That has to change." This is perhaps the clearest indication yet that our efforts to raise awareness of this problem among PG&E's top leadership is paying off.
City of Roseville Plans Optimistic Budget and Capital Improvement Investments
Roseville's proposed citywide budget including utilities is $554 million which includes a General Fund budget of $158 million. The General Fund budget includes parks, recreation and libraries, police, fire, public works, economic development, and general government services. Using Measure B, Roseville plans to expand on community defined high-priority services, maintain essential services, and stabilize their budget in expectation of the next downturn. In addition, the City of Roseville is proposing $223 million in capital improvement projects on their upcoming five-year Capital Improvement Program, including $78.6 million for fiscal year 2019-20. Funding for these projects will extend over several years and come from a variety of different sources including grants, utility fees, developer fees, and revenues from special taxes.
