Hot Topics Conference Recap
This year's Hot Topics Conference: Libraries Unplugged , was a smashing success! Over one hundred people came to see sixteen presentations and a great panel discussion. In addition to NEFLIN members, presenters came from Panama City, Jupiter, and Orlando. It was truly a conference celebrating libraries throughout Florida!

One of the highlights of the day came at the end of lunch when we announced the winner of our Cricut Air raffle. We did the drawing using Facebook Live so that everyone could see if they won this great prize. More on that below...

If you want to review the presentations from the conference (or wonder what you missed by not going), we are posting PDFs of the presentations on the conference web page

What is it? Kahoot!
Cost? Free (paid options available)
Where to get it? Getkahoot.com
Synopsis: An easy to use, online tool for interactive learning through gamification. Create quizzes, surveys, discussions, or jumbles to share with learners in real time.
Pros: Interactive, easy set-up, easy facilitation, individual or team-based activities
Cons: Requires internet connection for both presenter and participants and projector for questions, limited flexibility for question style/pedagogy

Although it's been around for a few years now, I find that I still use it at least monthly, because the format works so well. When it first came out, it appeared to be tailored for a school atmosphere, but I have personally found it to work well with adult learners. It invites a participatory learning experience with a small twist of competition. I work with adult learners of varying technological skills, and a benefit of Kahoot!'s design is it is relatively intuitive; and most participants only require a few minutes to become familiar with the platform (I recommend having one or two practice questions to help familiarize them to the concept). Kahoot! does require an internet connection, a screen projection (for all participants to view), and either mobile devices or computers for players to submit answers. I personally feel that Poll Everywhere or Socrative is better equipped for facilitating discussions via polls and surveys than Kahoot! is, but for quick, interactive gamification, I find Kahoot! to be an excellent resource.

Katie and Emily have been doing webinars for NEFLIN for a few months now. This pair of librarians from Illinois have authored three books from ALA Editions on programming. They did a series of webinars for us last Fall on various types of Pop Culture programming. Those webinars were very well-received, and we're happy to announce that they are returning to NEFLIN in late Summer to offer two webinars:
