Program News
AAI Completing First Cohort

The American Apprenticeship Initiative (AAI) is completing their first cohort of Pre-Apprenticeship students. They have participated in a program that entailed 24 classes specific to Manufacturing on ToolingU.com, an online learning platform for manufacturing careers. In conjunction with ToolingU, the students also took a series of soft skills classes. Upon completion of all ToolingU and Soft Skills classes, they qualify for an internship in a Manufacturing facility. This will help expose the students to the many facets of manufacturing and to the work environment.

Additionally, AAI is hosting a mixer event on June 25th, where the students will interview with host businesses so they can both evaluate one another to ensure that the internships will be a good fit for both the student and the businesses.

These internships will be for 100 hours and will start after the first week of July.

Heather Hubbard, BEAM participant, has worked providing home care and residential care for the past 6 years with the goal of becoming a CNA the entire time. Heather has consistently worked, many times two jobs, to provide for her family, which has made her unable to attend the training options that were offered in our area for several years.

Heather was assisted by the BEAM program in creating a resume and securing employment at the Oxford's Veterans Home as a Unit Assistant, which allowed her to work a set schedule and begin to explore options for schooling. Heather enrolled in an online Associates program for Medical Administrative Assistant through Bryant & Stratton, with the idea that she could use the degree at completion to work in the healthcare field if or when she could no longer do the physically demanding nurse aide work.

In the mean time, a CNA training became available through DCMO BOCES that would work with her schedule. Heather was again assisted by the BEAM program, this time in seeking funding through CDO Workforce and preparing for the training and testing

Heather has successfully completed the training and state licensing exam while at the same time maintaining her online classes for college. As of June 8th, Heather attained her goal and became a Certified Nurse Aide! Heather's plan is to gain employment in the field and give back to the community working in a long-term care facility.

Congratulations Heather!
