kidzSAR FITKIDZ
  • Children 12-and-under receive free registrations, while parents are allowed to walk or run with little children in the FitKidz mile but they are not part of the official event and are not timed.
  • The SAR FitKidz table will be near the Cox Jumping Castle, on the south edge of the Children's Museum grass.
  • The FitKidz event will start at 6:30 - please allow enough time to register and check-in before the race.
  • See the SAR page for additional information on the FitKidz rules
MISC. MISCELLANEOUS, including hotel discounts, headphones, parking, bathrooms, and more
  • The AC Hotel by Marriott Tucson Downtown has reached its capacity for discounted rooms.  Here's what they wrote: "While the link is now inactive, anyone interested in still booking can contact our Sales Coordinator, Chloe ([email protected] or 520-775-3170) to request and we may be able to honor the group rate based on availability."

  • Strollers and wheelchairs are allowed in all events - but no dogs or animals are allowed in any of the events.
  • Headphones are strongly discouraged.  The whole point is to have fun at a big running party, so leave the headphones at home - listen the race course music, talk with strangers, say hi to the spectators and save the headphones for the treadmill.
  • No headphones for prize money: prize money in the RRCA One-Mile West Regional Championships will not be given to athletes wearing headphones when racing.  See the race page for all details on prize money.
  • Maps: Way below are the staging area and course maps so that you can find all the events.
  • Free giveaway shirt: every paid 5k registrant receives a souvenir soft orange "Meet Me Downtown" race shirt to be picked up at four separate registration and packet pick-up events (see schedule above) with sizing on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Souvenir tank tops and trucker hats -- you can purchase souvenir items to pick up on race day by ordering on the race registration site here.
  • Parking: there is plenty of free Downtown parking within blocks of the starting line.  See the Downtown Partnership for parking information.
  • Bathrooms: Waste Management PortoJohns on the north wall of the Children's Museum. There are no bathrooms on the 3.1 mile course.
  • Water Stations: it will be hot, so if you're not racing consider carrying your own water as a guard against the heat - we'll have water stations approximately 1.25 miles with volunteers from beneficiary Greater Tucson Leadership and at 2.25 miles with volunteers from Educational Enrichment Foundation, plus fresh ice to keep you cool.  The finish line will have cold water, tepid water, and Gatorade.

FINAL ITEMS
Have we said that it'll probably be hot?  It's been a cool month so far, but it'll heat up on race day.  Please use common sense on race night to remain cool - wear light clothes, stay hydrated, and slow down if you need to.

The course will have two water stations at approximately 1.25 miles and 2.25 miles, plus fresh ice to keep you cool.  Experts say that staying hydrated keeps your core body temperature down, so if possible bring your own water to keep you cool!

Thanks to Lucas Tyler and to Dave Hill for measuring and certifying the courses and special thanks to AMR for providing two ambulances on race night.  We're grateful, too, to the City of Tucson and the Tucson Police Department for allowing us to close some of our major Downtown thoroughfares.  Desert Barricades have helped ensure all of our road closures, too.

Whew - that's a lot of information, we know, but if you've read this far you should be well-prepared for a great weekend!

Tia and I thank you very much for signing up - we'll see you out there . . . .
