Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council Celebrates National Trails Day® on June 1, 2019
Finger Lakes Region boasts over 75 hiking and biking trails
Pittsford, N.Y. - The  American Hiking Society has designated the first Saturday in June - this year, June 1, 2019 - as National Trails Days®, a day of public events aimed at advocacy and trail service. The public is invited to hike, bike, run, birdwatch, clean up and more along public lands and trails, with numerous events taking place throughout the Finger Lakes region and even more hiking and biking trails available to explore on one's own. 

As part of this initiative, the Finger Lakes Vacation Region encourages visitors to spend time outside, enjoying the public land and helping to keep it clean. The Region boasts over 75 trails for hiking and biking that cover every inch of the area, and offer some of the best sites, scenes and experiences. Visitors can view each of the trails along with a map, directions and nearby activities on the Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council's website, FingerLakesTravelNY.com.

Registered National Trails Days® events can be found on the American Hiking Society's website through searching by zip code. Celebrations include scheduled hikes, paddle activities, trail runs, special exhibits and trail maintenance projects.

The first of 10 naturalist-led hikes for the Finger Lakes Land Trust's 30th anniversary will take place on June 1, in relation to National Trails Day®. Participants will hike through Hinchcliff Family Preserve in Spafford, N.Y., catching a view over the eastern shore of Skaneateles Lake. Hikers who complete all 10 hikes in the anniversary series, totaling 30 miles, will receive a special gift from the Land Trust.
