I have had back problems for years for which I have seen chiropractors and acupuncturists.  Both healing modalities have been very effective.  In addition I have read Dr. Sarno's book, "Healing Back Pain". Dr. Sarno died years ago, however his book is still selling and getting positive reviews.

 

Dr Sarno believes back pain is caused by the subconscious mind in an effort to stop thinking about or dealing with unpleasant or painful thoughts and feelings. It accomplishes this by depriving oxygen to the nerves and tissues surrounding the spine. This is a condition he calls TMS - a distraction to your emotions. This is not a condition that can be measured, viewed or imaged. You just have to take his word for it. Standard doctors and health insurances tend to pay for expensive surgery and drugs.  They do not believe in back pain originating from the subconscious.  Insurances have just started to fund back pain relief from more holistic therapies.

I had one client whose husband was in bed for a year with back pain.  By reading and seeing Dr. Sarno - he got better - when nothing else would help. Might be a good idea to add this to your toolbox to resolve emotional/ psychological connections to back pain.
