AP Studio Art Senior Exhibition: Friday!
This Friday, May 11, H-F will host an end-of-the-year art event you won't want to miss: the AP Studio Art Senior Exhibition. The event is a capstone event for our senior student-artists, showcasing works they have completed throughout their high school careers in a unique gallery format. Join us from 6-9 p.m. at Union Street Gallery (1527 Otto Bvld., Chicago Heights), and enjoy projects made by: Alyssa Agrigento, Taylor Ausley, VerCinda Burns, Jylon Daniels, Lauren Davidson, Evgenia Ermasova, Leia Fuentes, Brianna Harris, Jordyn Hester, Doubah Joseph, Jaida Jude, Stewart Keene, Robert Lee, Alexandra Lowry, Ruth McManus, Mary Moran, Emma Novak, Victoria Richardson, Alexia Wade, Crystal Wilson & Andrea Zambrano.
Solar Wind Celebration: Saturday!
When this year's Fine Arts students and teachers were looking for inspiration, they looked to the skies and also down the street. Renowned astrophysicist Dr. Eugene Parker - until very recently a longtime resident of the community - developed the theory of the supersonic solar wind and predicted the spiral shape of the solar magnetic field in the outer solar system. When NASA decided to name its Parker Solar Probe after him - making him the first living person to be memorialized in this way by NASA - a special collaborative high school project was launched.
The H-F Solar Wind Celebration - set for this Saturday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium - will have Dr. Parker in attendance. The event is planned to be a fully immersive light-and-sound experience with performances by the school's choir, orchestra, theatre and band students, plus visual displays by art students and the unveiling of Solar Wind, a legacy sculpture created by our Ceramics & Sculpture students. Please join us for this very special event!

Important Reminders in Brief
paper-clip-graphic.gif
  • Attention, Juniors & Seniors: This Friday, May 11, is the last day to purchase tickets to Prom 2018: Crystal Ball! Tickets ($135/person) are being sold at the Campus Store.
  •
  • Attention, Driver Education Students: If you passed Driver Education this school year, but have not yet received your permit application, please pick it up in North Building Room 120 before the end of the year. You will not be able to get a permit application over the summer. If you have already received your blue-and-white paper application, visit the DMV by Thursday, May 31, to obtain your official permit. The DMV will no longer accept these forms beginning Friday, June 1. Questions? Call 708-335-5335.
  • Attention, Vikings: After Tuesday, May 15, you must have money in your lunch account or pay with cash in order to be served lunch in the cafeterias. The only exception to this is students who receive free or reduced lunch. No lunches can be charged to accounts with negative balances.
  • Attention, Juniors: Visual Image Photography is getting ready to take your Class of 2019 senior portraits! Sessions will be available in June and July this summer in the South Building. Visit this website to schedule your session... Unrelated -- but just as important -- please remember that Illinois state law requires that every student entering Grade 12 (your senior year) must have received at least one dose of Meningococcal vaccination (often referred to as the "meningitis vaccine") on or after his/her 16th birthday. Please be advised that the state-mandated deadline for your medical file to be updated is Monday, Oct. 15. Students who fail to meet this deadline will be suspended from school until the medical records show proof of the required meningitis vaccination. Proof of immunization should be forwarded to the Nurse's Office. Questions? Please call 708-335-5536.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
APES FIELDTRIP
On Tuesday, students in Mrs. Gioiosa's AP Environmental Science classes took a trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe to explore the variety of flora found there.
