SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: BE PART OF "THE NET"
This year, the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce will embark on new territory with our very own magazine for members - the net. We are very excited to announce this publication and how you can be a part of it. We thought about creating a Chamber Directory and knew that it would probably sit on a shelf and not be read, so to encourage you to learn more about fellow members, member services and member events, we decided to create our very own magazine. With the help of Macomb Now Magazine, we anticipate a 24-page glossy magazine, with our own look and feel, telling the stories only we can tell about chamber members and the people behind the businesses the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce interacts with every day.

Any advertising questions you have can be answered by Macomb Now's Ad Sales Representative Diane Bowles at (586.622.6621 x8) or the Chamber's Business Development Director Gina Rieck (586.731.5400 x15).

FAMILIES AGAINST NARCOTICS RECEIVES $5,000 FROM FIRST STATE BANK
Who's most likely to become addicted to opioid painkillers like OxyContin, Percocet and Vicodin? Often, the person you least expect. The teen with a sports injury. The construction worker with back pain. Even the grandmother who misreads a medicine bottle.

"It often starts with a prescription after a medical procedure or injury," says Kelley Nahas,
administrative coordinator of Families Against Narcotics. "It's surprising how quickly people can go from functioning well in life to being overwhelmed by addiction." First State Bank is donating $5,000 to Families Against Narcotics to help the Fraser-based nonprofit raise awareness of the potential dangers of prescription painkillers.

M-59 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE FROM MDOT:

Last week MDOT opened the intersection of M-59 and Garfield. Their contractor was also able to pave the intersection with minimal joints which will help keep this roadway looking good for many years to come.

This week, the contractor will continue to build the roadway in preparation for HMA to be placed on the mainline work. Sand and stone is being placed and curb and gutter in preparation for more HMA paving in the weeks to come. You will also notice a number of black poles and mast arms going up. These will function the same as the mast arms placed in last year's work and will continue the enhanced visual theme of the corridor.

MDOT is continually reviewing the traffic patterns as motorists navigate other roadways to find the right alternate routes to get around due to the I-696 closure. It may be necessary to adjust some traffic lights in order to accommodate heavier flows on these alternate routes.
