WLT Presents One Page Salon
with Owen Egerton

Tuesday, June 4, 2019
7:30 p.m.
The North Door, Austin, TX

One Page Salon (called "the best literary evening in town" by the Austin American-Statesman) is the brainchild of novelist, screenwriter, and comedian Owen Egerton. Four outstanding writers (who have all participated in WLT programs in the past year) will read one page from a work in progress. Confirmed readers include poet/nonfiction writer Cristin O'Keefe Aptowitz, Texas Monthly reporter Michael Hall, and poet/novelist/essayist ire'ne lara silva.

One person from the audience will have the opportunity to read one page of their work. If you're interested, bring the page and grab a lottery ticket when you arrive. We'll also be bringing back, by popular demand, the One Sentence Salon.
Time is running out to register for the Agents & Editors Conference!

June 28-30
Hyatt Regency Austin
208 Barton Springs Road
Austin, TX 78704

Everyone talks about New Year's resolutions, but for writers, the summer tends to be where we put our hopes and dreams: finish that book, revise, get beta reads, and start querying agents. If this describes your plans for the next three months, do not miss this year's Agents & Editors Conference. We're bringing 19 literary agents, three editors, and two terrific keynote speakers to downtown Austin.

There's no better place to learn the publishing process, practice pitching your book, and meeting agents and editors who are working every day to build writing careers.

As of today, 13 agents (in every genre featured at the conference) and three editors still have slots remaining for consultations. Register soon to secure your spot!

Join us this June for one of the best publishing conferences in the country.
Want to spend a week writing and talking craft with writers in one of the most beautiful spots in Texas?
This year, we'll host the annual Summer Writing Retreat in beautiful Kerrville, Texas at Schreiner University. All of our events - classes, writing time, special presentations from guest speakers, and evening events - will take place on campus throughout the week. There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to mix, mingle, and make new writing friends. All in one place!

Worldbuilding: How to Create the World within Your Work
with Erika T. Wurth

Wednesday, June 5, 2019
6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Learn to use essential conventions from other genres (thrillers, sci-fi/fantasy, realism, post-modernism) to create a believable, compelling world in your own fiction.  Explore possibilities for language, form, structure, point of view and characterization.

WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE A CLASS FROM THIS NEW INSTRUCTOR

Wurth's latest novel, You Who Enter Here, has been compared to S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders but set near the Navajo Nation. According to Kirkus Reviews, the book is "told with grim assuredness, the interactions among the characters real. A literal trigger warning: The book is spattered with violence and its aftereffects, but not a bit seems out of place."

Wurth is a longtime college creative writing instructor. If you're writing a mystery or crime fiction--or if you want your novel to have the palpable sense of place of those genres--this is the class for you.
