The top five finalist teams presented to Judges on May 23 at the Center for Entrepreneurship.      
   
 
Then all 25 graduating teams, including the finalists, judges, advisors, sponsors and community supporters gathered on May 29 at the West Houston Institute for winners to be announced at the 2019 HCC Business Plan Competition Awards Ceremony.
 
Dr. Zachary Hodges, President, HCC Northwest and founder of the competition, opened the awards ceremony.  
 
     
Next Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, Chair, HCC Board of Trustees spoke, followed by Dr. Maya Durnovo, Chief Entrepreneurial Officer, and then Jack Barry, III, Competition Trainer and Leader Emeritus.    
 
The 2019 HCC Business Plan Competition Advisor Cohort and Competition Trainers were recognized by David Regenbaum, Entrepreneur in Residence and President, HCC Foundation.  In all, sixty advisors from the Houston entrepreneurial ecosystem devoted their time and experience from February through May attending five group training sessions with the teams and delivering one-on-one advising to assist contestant teams in refining and polishing their business assumptions and plans to launch and grow their businesses. Advisors came from entities such as Silver Fox Advisors, SCORE, Amegy Bank, Wallis Bank, LiftFund, Houston Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (HAGGL), Newspring, Houston Area Urban League (HAUL), HCC Business Plan Competition (BPC) Alumni and HCC Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses.   
 
Our past business plan competition alumni were recognized and some spoke a few words of encouragement to the crowd and our 2019 HCC BPC graduates.  
 
       
All graduating teams from the 2019 HCC Competition were recognized and awarded in-kind prizes.  In all, $37,600 in free memberships, services and products were awarded. Another $33,750 was awarded in discounted memberships and services, if all graduates take advantage of these benefits.  
 
Next, finalists were brought up to the stage to introduce themselves and  their business concepts.   
 
       
  Then  winners were announced and prize money checks were awarded!

Through the competition training, one-on-one advising and collaboration with their competition peers, all teams graduate from the BPC meeting rigorous competition milestones that are designed to have them come out with stronger business assumptions and written plans; and with improved skills to verbally articulate their business concepts, strategies and plans.
