Alexis Azar Posnanski named
CSMSG’s Director of Stewardship and Giving

The Rector has announced that Alexis Azar Posnanski has been named CSMSG’s Director of Stewardship and Giving. Alexis is a native of St. Louis who comes to The Church of St. Michael & St. George after almost 13 years working in Saint Louis University's Development Division. After graduating from Villa Duchesne, Alexis made her way up to Maine and attended Colby College. She lived in Washington D.C and Australia before returning to St. Louis to pursue her Master's Degree. While finishing her graduate work, Alexis met and married her husband Brian, who also is a native St. Louisan. Alexis and Brian spend their free time enjoying their three untamed sons and tamed dog in Glendale. Alexis is excited to build upon the existing solid foundation of stewardship and giving in the parish and looks forward to meeting and working with the staff and the parishioners of CSMSG.
Laurie Brown Named Director of Parish Life

After 16 years at CSMSG wearing two hats responsible for both fellowship and stewardship, Laurie Brown became our Director of Parish Life on June 3. This new position will allow Laurie to build upon the foundation of her work in fellowship. Laurie will promote our common life in Christ, and facilitate the chances we have to get to know one another better. As we are bound more closely to Jesus, we are bound more closely to one another. In addition, Laurie will help newcomers to CSMSG get to know the parish and find opportunities to take an active role in ministry. Laurie has been a member of The Church of St. Michael & St. George for much of her adult life. She and her husband Dr. David Brown have raised both of their children at CSMSG. Laurie's son, Will Brown, lives in Boston, and her daughter, Lily Brown, will be a junior at the University of North Carolina this fall. We are grateful to Laurie for the blood, sweat, and tears she has given this parish and look forward to this next chapter of her peerless service to The Church of St. Michael & St. George.
AVOID THE SUMMER SLUMP
It’s common for churches to see what’s been thoughtfully (or painfully) coined “the summer giving slump,” when giving declines between the months of May and August. Many churches like CSMSG see a 20% or more decrease in giving during these months, due to members being on vacation, going to BBQs, traveling with family, etc. You can help CSMSG avoid the slump in two ways:
 * Pay your pledge in full now, instead of at the end of the year;
 * Send in ahead of time those pledge payments you will miss while you are away this summer.
You may give online at anytime from anywhere. Go to our website, click on Stewardship, click on Give Now.

In spite of the slump, God is at work at CSMSG this summer! We are gearing up for what is sure to be a spectacular fall. Thank you for your support.
Father Andrew and Senior Warden Betsy Douglass have commissioned a strategic planning committee to explore how our Church can remain strong and grow even stronger over the next five years. Our work is going well, but we cannot stand still!
The committee, called Faithfully Forward, is comprised of the following vestry-nominated parishioners:
Patrick Akins
Nic Ayling
Laurie Brown
Anne Davidson
Kate Harris
Jim Holbrook
Tracee Holmes
Tom Horlacher
Gayle Jackson
John Koykka
Stephanie Nash
Sam Panke
Terese Portell
Nancy Reynolds
Patience Schock
Joe Sheehan
John Tyler
The Faithfully Forward committee is now focusing on four key areas:
1) observing what other churches are doing, both locally and nationally, for good ideas that could apply to us,
2) talking with internal Church staff and lay leaders for their opinions and ideas,
3) planning for focus groups and a parish-wide survey to take place over the next several months, and
4) considering the best ways to communicate with everyone in the parish on an ongoing basis, so that everyone is informed, in touch, and excited about what’s going on here at CSMSG.

We anticipate that the planning will take a year, with a full report presented to the Vestry and the congregation upon its conclusion.

Faithfully Forward wants your input, ideas, and questions, so please see one of the committee members listed above or email us at CSMSGstratplan@gmail.com anytime. Thank you!

THY KINGDOM COME: ASCENSION TO PENTECOST
Will you join with thousands of others worldwide and help light up the world in prayer?

"Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus. What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer."

From Ascension to Pentecost, we'll be praying for more people to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Find out how you can join in with Thy Kingdom Come: Thy Kingdom Come website
Today is the Holy Day of Pentecost and is celebrated 50 days after Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem, celebrating the Feast of Weeks— the festival commemorating God’s gift of sustenance and the Law to his people.  It makes sense that God would choose this festival as the occasion on which He poured out the Holy Spirit as described in the Acts of the Apostles. During a festival when the people thanked God for giving them grain and for giving them His law, the Lord gave the Spirit of life. Paul tells us in his Letter to the Galatians, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law." In every era, it is appropriate to thank God for His provision of His Holy Spirit.

JTM WOMEN'S MINISTRY FUND
Jan Torrisi-Mokwa was invaluable in enhancing the Women's Ministry at The Church of St. Michael & St. George, as well as founding the ECW Steering Council by lovingly guiding the group through a process that brought our value and mission statements to fruition. One of the ways that her memory will be honored is by establishing a fund to support the Women's Retreats that Jan so dearly loved. The money will be used to pay for retreat leaders, as well as provide scholarships for attendees. If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to CSMSG and note "JTM Women's Ministry Fund" in the memo. Please contact Laurie Brown at Laurie@csmsg.org if you have any questions.
