Truman Day: Courthouse Closed
Celebrate the 134th Birthday of President Harry S. Truman!
Born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri, Harry Truman to this day is the only U.S. President from the Show Me state. He worked in a wide variety of jobs as a young man, from a timekeeper for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway to a mail room employee for the Kansas City Star. After gaining leadership skills as a captain in World War I, Truman went on to pursue a career in politics. He eventually assumed the presidency after Franklin Roosevelt's death in 1945.
