ANNUAL FUR BALL RAISES
$150,000 TO HELP SUSTAIN
SHELTER OPERATIONS
Fur Ball 2018 - Dogaritaville - was a huge success thanks to you! Your generosity helped us to raise nearly $150,000 to help the animals in our care.
Proceeds raised benefit the Cheyenne Animal Shelter Foundation, which was established in 2006 to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Shelter. The Foundation Board invests the funds - currently at approximately $5 million and returns $38,000 to the Shelter each month to assist with daily operational costs.
Our Legacy Circle is composed of those who have included the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in their estate plans. Each year, the Foundation hosts a luncheon, sponsored by our Charles Schwab financial advisor, where we thank our Legacy Circle members for their support and when we induct the year's new members.
If you have named the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in your estate plans, we hope that you would let us know so that we may include you in our Legacy Circle. Joining costs you nothing during your lifetime, but will help ensure the future of our organization for years to come.

NEW PARTNERSHIPS BEING FORGED TO SAVE MORE LIVES
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter receives almost 6,000 animals a year! Not only is our veterinary clinic performing nearly double the amount of exams and surgeries than in past years but also Animal Control officers are getting more calls for assistance throughout Laramie County.
Shelter work is hard. Our employees care for these animals in both the "looking after" sense and the loving sense. As we come to care for and even love a cat, dog, rabbit or even a rat, it is sometimes difficult to see it leave the Shelter to a new -- and hopefully -- forever home. Yet, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter is very fortunate to be able to boast a dedicated board of directors and staff. We are thrilled when we can share our good fortune with pets from other shelters and rescue organizations.

For example, we recently partnered with a shelter in Dallas, Texas, transferring 19 dogs to Wyoming and Nebraska. The shelter in Texas receives 32,000 animals a year, which is about 84 animals a day. While we sometimes feel like we don't have room to care for any more animals, in Texas that isn't just a feeling. These shelters are forced to euthanize dozens of animals each day due to a lack of space.
Recently, there was a post on social media that said animal rescue work is like trying to drain an ocean with a teaspoon. These 19 lives are our teaspoon. While it isn't much - it's what we can do right now, and it's thanks to our generous donors and compassionate staff that we are able to do so.

NOTHING'S SWEETER THAN A DOG WITH SPARKLING EYES... AND TEETH
|
Teeth cleanings and extractions can be expensive for pets, and sometimes we have animals that come in to the Shelter that require the work. Thanks to a generous donation from
Westgate Dental Clinic, we've been able to provide dental work to several of our shelter pets, including Cashew!
Once it's determined a pet needs the work, they're sent to
Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic LLC where Tiffany Healey, DVM, performs the service.
Cashew did wonderful! We didn't think he could get more handsome, but it looks like he did! Cashew was adopted quickly after his procedure and is getting spoiled in his forever home. We just hope his new mom and dad are brushing his teeth!

TRAP, NEUTER, RELEASE EFFORTS GAINING MOMENTUM IN LARAMIE COUNTY
In early 2018, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter initiated a big push in its Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program. With the warmer seasons approaching, our Community Cat Program Coordinator has been able to set traps in the community, and so far we have been able to spay and neuter about 150 cats.
How does TNR work, and why is it important?
- In a TNR program, feral cats are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered and returned to their home environment.
- In our shelter's TNR program, cats are not only spayed/neutered, they are also vaccinated against rabies and micro-chipped.
- Trap, neuter, release is the only proven way to stop feral cat overpopulation.
- If you see a cat that has been ear tipped, meaning the tip of the left ear has been shaven off, the cat has been spayed or neutered as a part of this program.
Volunteers are needed to keep this momentum going. We're looking for volunteers to help set traps and caregivers of colonies who would be interested in participating in the program. To see what the TNR process is like, watch the video below.

OH BABY! WE'RE EXPECTING!

Spring Kitten and Puppy Shower

It's time for our annual Kitten and Puppy Shower! "Kitten season" is upon us. Kitten season typically lasts from March to October, and during that time we can see anywhere between 700-800 kittens under eight weeks old. With that many kittens in our care - we need your help! This is a great way to donate to the animals but also learn more about fostering and have some fun as well.

You can meet different cats, dogs and critters waiting to be adopted. Learn more about fostering and how easy it is from our Foster Coordinator, Rheva. Help us make animal enrichment and enjoy light refreshments.
Play "Name that baby!" You can donate $1.00 and enter a name to be used for a kitten or puppy. You can also decide if the name goes to a kitten or puppy, and we'll send you a picture once we name an animal!
Bring a donation, and you can be entered in to win our raffle! For kitten (and puppy) season we'll need the following:
- Powder Kitten Milk Replacement
- Miracle Nipples
- Non-clumping litter
- Pate style kitten canned food
- Baby blankets
- Unscented baby wipes
- Clorox wipes
- Snuggle safe discs
- Wired dog crate
