5th Annual CGTA E-Waste/Textile Drive and Costume Exchange Report
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Chicago Green Theatre Alliance's 5th Annual E-Waste/Textile Drive and Costume Exchange on May 31 - June 2 at Steppenwolf's Garage Theatre. It was our biggest year yet as we expanded to three full days of collecting electronic waste, textiles, home goods, batteries, corks, CDs, and making costumes and clothes available for reuse at no cost.
More than 300 people participated in the Drive, which was double the number of participants from last year. Approximately 2.5 tons of e-waste were collected and recycled by Garvey's Office Products, and more than 100 large bags of textiles weighing 1 ton went to Unique Thrift Stores following the event.
Thanks to your participation all of the e-waste and textiles will be recycled, reused and kept out of landfills!
Special thanks to our amazing event chair Maggie Fullilove-Nugent from TimeLine Theatre, to our venue hosts Steppenwolf Theatre, all of our volunteers, green community partner organizations Collective Resource and Verde, and to our recycling partners!

Help us make Chicago theatre greener! Join us for the Summer meeting of the Chicago Green Theatre Alliance and help push our CGTA initiatives forward. We'll gather to hear a guest speaker, discuss results from our e-waste and textile drive, and share new ideas and bright spots. Actors, administrators, designers, technicians, stage managers, production managers and anyone that is interested in helping Chicago theatres adopt more environmentally-friendly practices is welcome!
