February 25, 2020
Dear Holy Name Families,

Amazingly we are nearing the end of February, celebrating Mardi Gras today and preparing ourselves for the beginning of Lent tomorrow.

The traditions of Fat Tuesday can be traced backed to the very early days of Christianity. Time was set aside to savor all the favorite foods, music, and entertainment so that as Lent dawned, the heart could turn to Jesus' Desert Experience. Remember, Jesus spent 40 days in the Desert preparing for His Public Life, the 3 years in which He proclaimed the Good News of God's unconditional love for all people. As the Church grew up and countries identified themselves, the Lenten season reflected the culture and customs of a region.

Ash Wednesday was preceded by a celebration of life's favorite moments. Tomorrow, we invite you to our Ash Wednesday liturgy and celebration. Ashes will be placed on the foreheads of those who want to reflect on the journey that Jesus made. Lent is a personal journey, a time of private dedication to make some personal change that brings about a new good. The 6 weeks ahead are opportunities to reawaken a sense of personal, family, and community prayer, and an outreach to share in new ways.

FATHER ARNOLD'S WORDS OF THE WEEK:
February 25, 2020

"There are always good things that come out in the middle of wrong situations.
GOD has never failed to make surprises when we think everything has turned out into a sorry mess.
HE has a sure way of painting colors out of ashes and a beautiful way of turning good sounds out of broken melodies."
Be filled with God's blessing as we enter the Season of Lent.
