June 2018

 "A perfect (Cape) summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken!'
 James Dent
Our son Charlie manages our lawn and he does a wonderful job, our lawn looks lovely, but I suspect if James Dent hadn't said this, then Charlie would have!

With temperatures moving up into the seventies, I think we can say, "Summers arrived". But the Cape is more than it's wonderful beaches, take a look at our recent blogs where we look at summer theatre, our rich music scene and more.

Cape Cod's Theatres

The Cape has a rich history of diverse and entertaining live theatres. 2016 marked the 100th anniversary of the staging of Eugene O'Neill's first play, Bound East for Cardiff , in Provincetown. From O'Neill to Tennessee Williams to five time Tony winner Julie Harris, many of the theatre's greatest luminaries have lived and worked here. Today the Cape is home to a rich base of musicians, actors, artists and writers. Click here to read more

Music and Concerts
Aside from live music at many of the bars in town, there are three weekly events to look out for;
  • 2018 Nauset Beach Concert Series, Monday evening beginning July 9, everything from acoustic, to bluegrass, classic rock and reggae. A fabulous evening on the beach.
  • Wequassett Resort, 15th Annual Jazz Festival,  Performances take place on the Garden Terrace overlooking Pleasant Bay every Tuesday and Wednesday evening from June 26 through August 29. Cocktails and a light menu are available throughout the evening.
  • Live in Orleans, featuring four bands every Tuesday from 5-7pm, July 11- August 15, the festival will showcase a total 24 bands ranging in musical styles from jazz, folk and blues to country, rock, Americana and sounds from around the world.
Orleans Improvemen
t "Secret Gardens" tour

The Orleans Improvement Association will hold its 30th annual garden tour "Secret Gardens" on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 10-4 pm. This 30th anniversary celebration will feature seven beautiful gardens and attendees will observe plein air painters at work in the gardens, can interact with master gardeners, enjoy ice cream and following the tour, attend receptions at art galleries from 4-6 pm

Summer on the Cape means the water.  Two water based activities we love and can thoroughly recommend are  whale watching and the seal tours.
Whale watch trips leave from Provincetown Town.  It's a magical moment when you see your first whale, their elegance and size are a sight to behold, an unforgettable experience.  The seal tour is equally enjoyable.  Just a five minute walk from the Inn, pick up a Blue Claws Boat and you'll travel from Orleans to Chatham Harbor to view the seal colony. On the way you'll experience Pleasant Bay, islands, salt marshes, birds and the dunes of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Short Cape Cod break.  Still undecided or perhaps considering a short last minute break.  Then look no further than The Parsonage Inn for that relaxing break and Jo's scrumptious breakfasts. Sunrise on Nauset Beach, sunset on Rock Harbor, and a selection of fabulous restaurants right here in Orleans, there's something for everyone.   Click here for details of rooms and availability.
Whatever your plans are for the season, we hope you all have a fantastic summer and if we're part of it, thank you for joining us at the Parsonage Inn
