At this year's Class of 2019 Senior Awards with Ms. Simon (voted favorite male and female faculty members)

With less than two regular school weeks left in 2018-2019, we are continuing in this issue with student & staff recognitions.

Those members of our community that read these community briefs with some regularity know that we often include a motivational moment at the end - something that provides a key to success in life (this week it speaks to thinking long term and the role of sacrifice in the short run). What makes the success stories you will see herein so powerful is that these featured students and staff members have combined many of life's keys to success in order to achieve their results: hard work, sacrifice, patience, faith, and endurance.  And as you might imagine, our faculty and administrators are quite proud of them. In fact, we are very proud of every student on this campus that gave it their best this school year: in the classrooms, in athletic competitions, in serving the community, and in helping their peers. We truly have some incredible students at the "Creek."

Enjoy the rest of your week. I know many of our Bears are looking forward to Saturday evening - PROM!

In Bear Pride,

This Week's Motivational Moment!

THINK LONG TERM

Sociologist Dr. Edward Banfield of Harvard University conducted a fifty-year study into the reason for upward mobility in America. He found that the single most important attribute of people who achieved great success in life was a "long term perspective." They look into the future as far as they can to determine the kind of the people they want to become and the goals they want to achieve. They then back into the things they will need to accomplish to achieve their desired futures.

The lesson for our Bears? The most common success trait among these people in the fifty-year Harvard study turned out to be that they made sacrifices in the short term to assure greater results in the future. Put another way, they were all excellent with self-discipline.
