Principal  Notes                                                         May 16, 2019

Dear Families,

We are winding down the school year.  It's amazing how 10 months have passed so quickly. It is a very busy time at St. Mary's right now.  Every day we are trying to squeeze more things into the time we have left before we leave on summer vacation.

We had a wonderful day of celebration last Friday for Grandparents' and Grandfriends' Day! We welcomed over 200 grandparents and special friends to St. Mary's. Our teachers and students did a wonderful job of hosting. The students did a great job of articulating in words, songs, pictures and actions the importance of these special people in their lives. A big shout out and thank you to Nancy Kasun and Danielle Tonelli (Mathai) for planning this event. You did a marvelous job of putting it all together.

You could feel the energy in the air last night. Our production of Beauty and the Beast was just spectacular!  I would like to personally thank our "dream team" of teachers who spent countless hours of their time, talent and treasure putting this together.  Mrs. Kesler, Ms. Pospyhalla, Mr. Newman, Ms. Gleason and Mr. Falk thank you for sharing your gifts with us and the countless memories you have created.

                                     SMV's Beauty and Beast

Faithfully,

Mrs. Mary Tretow

Every spring we encourage all children to make sure they have a library card from their local public library. This will enable them to enjoy summer reading when they do not have access to our school library. Children's Book Week is April 29-May 3. All children can receive a special prize by showing their library card to Miss Benson beginning that week and continuing to the end of the school year. Now is the time to get a library card if you don't already have one!

Hot Lunch News
The end of the year is fast approaching! Now is the time to make sure your hot lunch balance is positive and ready to finish out the year. There are 16 lunch days left, which amounts to $56 (plus Field Day) if your child takes lunch every day. Balances will be sent out this weekend, so you will know where you stand, or you can log in to your online account at any time. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Home & School Volunteers
Calling all parents! I'd love to help you find a way to give of your time and talent at St. Marys! Take a moment and fill out this google doc! Many hands make light work! Let's make 2019/2020 EPIC!
Many thanks to the many parents who helped with Teacher Appreciation Week! It was a busy week and we could not have celebrated our teachers without your support. Thank you to Mia Giampietro for organizing the 8th  Grade Parents vs. Students Basketball Game! We appreciate you keeping this fun SMV tradition going for the Class of 2019!!

Memorial Day Parade
Are you planning to walk with SMV in the Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade? For planning purposes, we would like to have an idea of the number of walkers. Please let us know by responding here. Thank you!!!

Last Dine Out Day/Night
Please lend a hand at the next Culver's Dine Out event on May 21st. We will need adults to help out from 5-8pm (junior high students also  welcome  to finish up their volunteer hours with a parent). Please let me know if you're interested.

Last SCRIP Order and Please buy out SCRIP in Office:
Our last SCRIP order of the year for physical cards will be placed Monday, May 20th, 8am.  Please stock up on any cards you'll need for the summer, including reloadable cards which may continue to be used all year long.  Also please help us buy down our office inventory through the end of the year.

SCRIP for Culver's Dine Out:
Help SMV get an extra benefit from this fundraiser by paying with Culver's SCRIP.  Our fabulous Culver's family offers the school a 10% rebate on these cards, available in $10 and $25 denominations. Stock up for the Dine Out and for all your summer Culver's cravings.  Cards are available in the school office (cash or checks to SMV H&S).  SCRIP users order through the website by Monday May 20th 8am, delivered via folders same day.  Not a SCRIP user?  It's super easy to sign up and start earning $$$ towards tuition (see H&S links in Vbackpack).

SMV let's make this happen!!!!  Neighboring schools often use HUNDREDS $$$ of Culver's SCRIP on their Dine Out nights.

Please also be on the look-out for volunteer sign-ups for Field Day!
Positively
 SMV

Last week Friday, SMV opened its doors to some very important people- our grandparents and grand friends!  Nancy Kasun and Danielle Mathai were kind enough to give of their time to organize this lovely morning.  Our grandparents and grand friends were treated to a morning that included mass, a performance in the gym by our youngest students, and time in the classrooms.  I think it is safe to say it was a HUGE success and a morning that everyone really enjoyed.  Smiles, hugs, and kisses filled the school hallways all morning.  Thank you to all our teachers for making their classrooms a fun stop for our visitors.  Also, a huge thank you to  Nancy and Danielle for sharing your time and talent so that our families could feel the SMV love!

And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!
SMV Athletic News

Want to be the Concession King or Queen?
The Concessions Open/Close team is looking for 2 volunteers for the 2019/2020 School year. Responsibilities are to open/set up the concessions area before Volleyball and Basketball games and to close/count cash afterwards. This is a 1 time per month commitment. This is great for any parent with multiple school athletes as it reduces the amount of time required in the concessions booth. Please consider sharing your time and talent in support of our Athletics department.   Contact Belinda Russell 404-433-5165 for more information.

SMV T-Ball
T-ball at SMV is right around the corner! Students entering K3-2nd grade in fall of 2019 are eligible to participate. As in the years past, t-ball will be on Wednesday nights from 6-7pm at the fields north of the church parking lot. The season begins Wednesday, June 12th and goes through Wednesday, July 24th with no practice/game on July 3rd. Please watch for the sign up sheet next week! You will need to fill out two forms. The first one is the sign-up form and the second one is the waiver. A big THANK YOU to all of the parents/grandparents who are considering volunteering their time as coaches! This program would not be successful or possible without all of you so when filling out the form, please consider helping out!! If you have any questions, please contact Anne Mueller at 414-322-9060 or amdalecky@gmail.com. Thanks again!
