Permit Free Garage Sale Days - on Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19 . T o help get rid of gently used items and make a little money at the same time, the City is once again offering a Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend!  Visit  www.cityofwestland.com  for more information

Westland Historic Village Park - on Saturday, May 18 the Museum will be open from 8am - 5pm for the Volunteer Park Cleanup Day, at 857 North Wayne Road. We are asking for volunteers to stop by during the day and help clean up our Park's landscape. Any amount of your time is welcome to help preserve our Park! Holliday Nature Preserve Rouge Rescue will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm at 6867 North Hix Road. Th ey will be removing trash from creek and floodplain, cutting and piling invasive honeysuckle plants and moving wood to open log jams in the Rouge River.   For more information, please visit www.hnpa.org  or click here .

21st Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk - on Saturday, May 18 at 9:00 am. Join North Brothers Ford & The City of Westland to benefit the breast cancer research, treatment and education at Karmanos Cancer Institute. All proceeds go locally to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer Research. The event will start at the Westland Farmers Market, 1901 Carlson Street. Live Farm Animals - on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway. The whole family will enjoy coming to see a pony, donkey, goats, sheep, alpaca, bunnies, ducks, and a baby cow. When you're done, browse our collection of books to learn more about them. Celebrate Armed Forces Day - on Saturday , May 18. Join BOVA VFW 9885, located at 6440 North Hix Road. Join us for food and fun as we honor the sacrifice of all those serving in the military starting at 1:00 pm with a ceremony at 3:00 pm.

Family Movie Day at William P. Faust Public Library - on Sunday, May 19, 6123 Central City Parkway in Meeting Rooms A and B. Please join us for a FREE family movie at 1:00 pm. The movie will be Lego Movie 2: The Second Part!  Movies are rated G or PG and run approximately 90 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. Children under 8 must have an adult present. Friday Night Movie at Westland Library - on Friday, May 24 at 6:15 pm at the William P. Faust Public Library, 6123 Central City Parkway, in Meeting Rooms A and B for Arctic. The Wayne-Westland Memorial Day Parade - on Sunday, May 26 at 1:00 pm. The Parade will begin at John Glenn High School and will conclude with a Remembrance Ceremony at the Westland Veterans Memorial Garden. The Arts Center for Enlightenment is pleased to present Meditations on Silence, an exhibition of artwork that explores the theme of silence, with interpretations ranging from somber to energetic. Meditations on Silence will be presented in the Westland City Hall Gallery, 36300 Warren Road through May 30. The exhibition features work that dispels the notion that silence is stagnant. In observance of Memorial Day, the following will be closed from Saturday, May 25 - Monday, May 27: Westland Historic Village Park,  The Westland Friendship Center, The William P. Faust Library, City Hall and the 18th District Court .

Please note that there will be a one-day trash pick-up delay for the week beginning May 27 due to the observance of Memorial Day.
