PTA Board Spotlight: VP of Fundraising - Open Position for 2019-2020
|
|
Have you ever wondered what goes into our PTA leadership?
Over the past few weeks, our Nominating Committee has featured our Puesta PTA Board Roles, especially positions open for 2019-20.
This week: VP of Fundraising
From our major fundraisers, like The Big Give and Walkathon, to smaller ones, like Scholastic Book Fair and Dining for Dinero, the VP of Fundraising helps organize the volunteers, programs, and committees that fund our students' learning both in the here and now, and for their future.
By funding our unique educational and community programs, we help bring alive exceptional, lifelong learning opportunities for our students. PTA funds pay for many Educational Enhancement programs (Passport Club, Science Fair, Reflections,
Spanish Immersion Through the Arts, etc.)
, as well as the Amity intern program and Puesta del Sol community events. VP of Fundraising is an open position for the 2019-2020 school year. Please consider nominating yourself or someone you know for this important role!
Notes from our current VP of Fundraising,
Sarah Mejlaender
:
What is happening in the year ahead for Fundraising?
We are transitioning to one VP of Fundraising [instead of two] so the candidate will be doing both active and passive fundraising but it will be a balance of both throughout the year.
How long have you been a co-VP of Fundraising?
I started the position during the 2017-2018 school year. I will not be staying in the role for the upcoming school year, but I plan to Chair or Co-Chair The Big Give Fundraiser next year.
What do you most like about your role?
I most enjoy getting to know other parents in our Puesta del Sol community. We have such a diverse community and I enjoy listening to everyone's stories.
What skills are helpful in this role and how much time do you usually spend in the role per week?
Being organized is key for this role. Also, communication and people skills are valuable for this position along with a sense of humor because at the end of the day we are all volunteers.
Name a fun PTA memory:
It's been a treat to get to know so many involved parents in our Puesta del Sol community. They each have talents and are so passionate about all of the children at Puesta del Sol. I have to say my most fun memories are of Walkathon.

We are looking for 6 more host families for our Amity interns in the 2019-2020 school year

Being a Host Family entails providing a private bedroom, a bath (which can be shared), 3 meals a day, and is an invaluable experience for host families.

Congratulations Math Olympians!
|
|
We would like to congratulate our 5th Grade "Mathletes".
Our Puesta del Sol Math Olympiad program has a long standing and popular tradition to not only enhance our 5th Grade students' math proficiency but also to create a fun environment of friendly competition and math learning. This year there were 22 5th grade students that participated in our Math Olympiad program. These students finished 24 lessons with numerous homework hours which culminated in a Math Competition with other elementary schools and middle schools. All six groups of students received a medal for superior performance on Section 1 and one team earned a ribbon for their performance on Section 2. We are so proud of these students!
