FOUNDING GARDENERS: A REVIEW
BY BRENNA MURPHY, READERS' ADVISORY LIBRARIAN

GEPL Book Discussion talks Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation by Andrea Wulf at their June 14 meeting.

Andrea Wulf's Founding Gardeners is a fascinating history of the Founding Fathers and the way in which their lives as farmers and politicians were entwined. The target audience for this book is gardeners and history buffs; I am neither of these things and I still found plenty to enjoy! Did you know that George Washington insisted on using only species native to the Americas in his home garden at Mount Vernon? Or that the Founding Fathers would immerse themselves in nature to relieve the stress of running a new nation? Engaging, detailed, and well-researched, this is a great read for those looking to learn more about a rarely-discussed aspect of our nation's history.

On tap for the July GEPL Book Discussion is I Was Anastasia: A Novel by Ariel Lawhon. Copies of the book title are available near the 2nd Floor Information Desk.
