Summer Reading List

At Carver, we are committed to supporting students' love of reading and learning to give them a little bit of structure to their summer in preparation for the coming school year. We view reading as a pleasure and share that pleasure with our students. The 12th-9th grade reading requirements are listed below.
 
Rising 12th graders Class of 2019 are required to read two books: 
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon.
  • Moral Ground: Ethical Action for a Planet in Peril, by Kathleen Dean More & Michael Nelson-assignment attached. (Download More Info)
Rising 11th graders Class of 2020 are required to read two books:
  • Citizen 13660 by Mine Okubo
  • One of the Dummie Guides or How to Idiot guides-see assignment attached (Download More Info)
Rising  10th graders Class of 2021 are required to read two books:
  • One of the Dummie Guides or How to Idiot guides-see assignment attached
  • Rudy: My Story, an autobiography written in 2012 OR Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland OR biography or autobiography of an inspirational athlete of your choice. (Download More Info)
Incoming 9th graders Class of 2022 are required to read two books and two activities:
  • Free the Children by Craig Kielburger 2010 Edition ISBN # 9780978437503 See activity and question guide attached.
  • Rudy: My Story, an autobiography written in 2012 OR Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland (Download More Info)
