TAKE JESUS WITH YOU
The Adventures of Flat Jesus

As Christians we are called to keep Christ at the center of our lives and to spread the gospel wherever we go. This summer in your travels and adventures take Jesus along...and tell us about it!

Who is Flat Jesus?
The original "flat" character was Flat Stanley, star of a book by Jeff Brown in which a boy has remarkable adventures after waking up one day to discover he is flattened to half-an-inch thick. This was the beginning of the Flat Stanley project in schools to help children with literacy   and geography and from this grew the Flat Jesus Project .

The Flat Jesus Project
"And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."  Matthew 28:20
Flat Jesus reminds us to keep Christ at the center of our lives even, or especially, when we are far from our church home. As you are out and about this summer, take Jesus along for the adventure. You'll love taking Flat Jesus out to dinner or the park, to the zoo or to camp - wherever you and your family go. Then document the     adventures with pictures you share with your St. Paul's family. This project is for
EVERYONE, not just families with children.

How to create your own Flat Jesus

1.   Pick up a copy at the church, or make your own by googling "Flat Jesus"
2.   Get creative! Decorate Flat Jesus - what color hair does he have? What color skin tone? How should his robes be decorated? How do you see Jesus?
3.   Make one for yourself and one for a friend.
4.   Check the back of your Flat Jesus to see how to share.*
5.   If you have access to a laminating machine, cut out and laminate your Flat
Jesus. This way if he attempts to walk on water or spills a lot of wine, he'll be
protected!
6.   Take your Flat Jesus everywhere with you and take plenty of pictures. Share your pictures with us. Photo prints will be added to a bulletin board in the hallway.
7.   Talk with family and friends about what you and Flat Jesus experienced.
8. Have Fun!

* If you download a Flat Jesus off the web instead of getting one from St. Paul's, and would like to share it, send  it to Jen Luszcz at  [email protected]) or text (617-803-6504) . If you would like to share Flat Jesus in the Friday e-mail newsletter as well, email to   [email protected]

ST. PAUL'S BOOK CLUB

   St. Paul's Book Club meets
Wednesday, June 5th at 7:00 p.m.
 in the Rectory

            Our next book will be:
Same kind of different as me
By Ron Hall & Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent

A dangerous, homeless drifter who grew up picking  cotton in virtual slavery.
An upscale art dealer accustomed to the world   of  Armani and Chanel.
A gutsy woman with a stubborn dream.
A story so incredible no novelist would dare dream it.

It begins outside a burning plantation hut in Louisiana... and an East Texas honky-tonk... and, without a doubt, in the heart of God. It unfolds in a Hollywood hacienda... an upscale New York Gallery... a downtown dumpster... a Texas ranch. Gritty with pain and betrayal and brutality, it also shines with an unexpected, life-changing love.

EPISCOPAL CITY MISSION
Episcopal City Mission (ECM) builds relationships and collective power across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for racial and economic justice as the expression of God's transforming love. We do this by developing, convening, mobilizing, and funding prophetic leaders in Episcopal communities, grassroots organizations and faith-rooted organizations.

Episcopal City Mission's 2019 Annual Celebration will be held the evening of June 11 at  Boston University's George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston.  The reception will begin at 5:30 pm with dinner and program to follow. The theme for this year's Annual Celebration is Disrupting Hope.  We will focus on the importance of finding hope in the now, through our actions in a place rather than focusing on a lofty intangible hope that will manifest in the future. The keynote speaker is  Dr. Miguel De La Torre  professor of Social Ethics and Latinx Studies at Iliff School of Theology, Scholar-activist, author, and ordained Baptist minister. His books include  Embracing  Hopelessness  and  The U.S. Immigration Crisis: Towards an Ethics of Place.
