Principal's Message

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Please Take the Family Survey
I am writing to ask for 15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve our school. We have asked YouthTruth - a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county - to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on May 31 by clicking this link:
Please note:
  • The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
  • We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
  • If you have more than one child who attends our school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
  • If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.  If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact me at 925-943-2462.

Spring Sing
Many thanks to Ron Jones, our Music Specialist, and Kevin King, 5th grade teacher and sound specialist, for the wonderful Spring Sing last night.  Thanks, too, to all the families who braved the cold!

With appreciation,
Carol Nenni

Read-a-thon Fundraiser
Read-a-thon is off to a great start! Thanks to all those who have jumped on the  read-a-thon website so far. To date, we have grossed approx $3500. Keep reaching out to your sponsors to collect pledges! It's not too late. Our goal for the fundraiser is $10,000 and we still have a week to go!!!  Use this link to promote the read-a-thon on your social media.

On the website, your kids can enter in the books they read themselves, and will have a fun time personalizing their avatar & collecting wisdom coins to use in the Owl Shop. There will be prizes for the highest fundraising class and the most minutes read. Your child can win a class pizza party with extra recess, Dino Dollars to spend at the Book F air, or the coveted Golden Book Trophy for their teacher and class, plus bragging rights for the year. Click here for specific details.

If you haven't set up your kid's account online yet,  click here and use the login & password that were sent to you in last week's Wednesday's folder. Can't find it or just have general questions? Email Jamie O'Reilly and Jen Barnes at  [email protected]

NOTE: The  online input of minutes read is based on the honor system. We kindly ask that all parents please monitor their children's use of the software and help them exercise integrity and honesty. Thank you!

Happy Reading & Fundraising!

Murwood's Annual Track & Field Day
Monday, June 3rd

This is an all day event of fitness and fun for grades 1-5 (TK/K enjoy their own activities organized by their teachers). It takes about 80 parent volunteers to make this day a success. It is a highlight of our school year for the kids and a great way to celebrate the end of the school year! Please consider joining us for as much time as you can spare... the kids love to see all of the cheering parents throughout the day!

* Please note,1st and 2nd graders will return to their classrooms after lunch. The afternoon activities are for grades 3-5 only.*

Click on the link to see if there is a slot (or two!) that work for you. If you have any questions, please contact Sabrina Jones at [email protected].
Box Tops for Education

Murwood has received $350 in Box Top money this school year!    Thank you for all the submissions. Please keep bringing in the clipped box tops before school is out - the 4th and 5th grade leadership kids will count and organize them in late May.

Walnut Creek Education Foundation (WCEF)

Thank You! You made our 4th Annual Taste and Toast a Success!
To the fabulous 30+ Walnut Creek Downtown businesses who participated, and to our volunteers who spent so much time organizing - Thank You!! We saw teachers, staff and principals from all schools; met grandparents from Parkmead and an alumnus from Buena Vista now teaching in our district; talked to some of our fabulous real estate partners; spied a superintendent or two; and just felt proud to be a part of this wonderful community. Added bonus, almost 500 booklets sold has us predicting more than $15,000 for our schools. Win-win-win!!
