"I never could have imagined meeting you because I couldn't have imagined the circumstances that brought us together. Now I couldn't imagine life without Samaritans." - Suicide loss survivor and SafePlace participant
Thank you for making the Breakfast for Hope a success

On Wednesday, we welcomed 750   people to this year's Breakfast for Hope, uniting to support our mission of preventing suicide. Together, we raised more than $460,000  in support of our programs! Each year, you continue to amaze us by breaking new records for Samaritans. We are overwhelmingly grateful to all who participated, with a special thank you to our fantastic speakers, Grief Support Services Volunteer  Carly Burton and Massachusetts Senate President Karen E. Spilka.
Filled with gratitude for our incredible volunteers
Helpline volunteers come to Samaritans from all backgrounds and experiences. We recently celebrated our youngest volunteers at our Teen Volunteer Parent Night, where four of our young volunteers shared the impact that their experience at Samaritans has had on their lives. Take a look at our newest blog to hear more about their paths to community service and suicide prevention.
Check out these smiles! These groups of new volunteers completed their training to begin answering calls and texts to the Helpline! Welcome to the Samaritans family!
Throughout April, organizations across the country celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Month. We happily welcomed more than 90 Samaritans volunteers to  Cambridge Innovation Center to socialize and celebrate their accomplishments. During the program, Crisis Services and Grief Support volunteers were acknowledged for dedicating their time and energy to suicide prevention and survivor support. As always, we are so thankful to all of our incredible volunteers!
After Suicide: Understanding Your Grief
Surviving the suicide of a loved one is a potentially life-changing ordeal that requires all of the resilience that a loss survivor can muster, and all the support and understanding that family and community can provide.

Our After Suicide: Understanding Your Grief presentations draw on presenter  Jack Jordan's years of experience as a grief counselor specializing in work with suicide loss survivors.  Presentations focus on how grief after suicide is different than other deaths, prominent and common feelings after a suicide, and coping mechanisms for loss survivors. The workshops also offer ways in which friends, families, and communities can help.

Registration is open for Framingham and Fall River presentations next month.
Youth spread our mission after workshop

We were excited to bring a suicide prevention workshop to Stoneham  Coalition for Substance Abuse Education and Prevention recently! The Coalition is made up of community members concerned about the effects of drug and alcohol abuse in Stoneham. During the workshop, high school students took notes on our exercises to bring into their school and talk to their classmates about mental health! We love the idea of youth spreading our mission - thanks to the students for their work!  Are you interested in what one of our youth workshops looks like?
