On April 1, Cranston Public Library’s Central branch was the gathering place for over fifty library colleagues and special guests for a “Conversation on the State of Our Libraries,” with U.S. Senator Jack Reed and Dr. Kathryn K. Matthew, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), as featured speakers.

RI Latino Books Month Award Committee Update

Welcome our 1st RI Latino Books Month Book Award Committee. In April, we had our first meeting to plan for the upcoming 2020 booklist and future events.

Are you interested in being part of the committee? Just send us a message we would love to hear from you. Membership is open to youth librarians, school librarians, teachers or anyone who has experience working with students in grades K through 12. Currently, we have openings for a school librarian, teacher or reading specialist. Together we are making a difference. 👍

RI Youth Librarians for Autism Awareness

On Sunday, April 28, 2019 "The RI Youth Librarians for Autism Awareness" team participated in it's first "Imagine Walkathon" for The Autism Project in Johnston, RI. Together we were able to raise money for programs geared to children and teens on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. We also had the opportunity to promote our sensory programs offered at 11 public libraries throughout Rhode Island. To learn more visit our l ibguide page .

News from the Cranston Public Library
The Cranston Public Library is happy to announce our new Library Communications Manager, Sarah Bouvier. Sarah is a 2004 graduate of the College of Saint Rose with a BFA in graphic design. Previous to joining Cranston Public Library, Sarah was Marketing Coordinator at SoFontsy.com. In her new role as Library Communications Manager, Sarah is responsible for library branding, marketing, design and social media.

Adult Services Roundtable: Planning Meeting & Potluck

The Adult Services Roundtable (ASRT) relies on input from its members and other interested library staff to plan its future programs. Join fellow adult programming librarians to review and reflect on the previous year's activities, and help to plan the upcoming 2019/2020 continuing education discussion topics and program ideas. This meeting will be an informal gathering at which you will have the opportunity to network and chat with other adult services librarians, share some food and plan for another great year of programs.
2019 NELIG: Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences

The New England Library Instruction Group (NELIG) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its annual conference which will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 at New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, RI. The program, “Designing Student-Centered Learning Experiences," will include a keynote presentation from  Carrie Salazar  and will focus on ways we can shift the focus of instruction from the teacher to the needs and knowledge of students. Summer Institute in Digital Literacy
Interested to to boost your understanding and skills in digital literacy? This summer, join the URI Summer Institute in Digital Literacy, July 14 - 19. Held at the Providence URI campus, this six-day institute is an intensive, 42-hour summer professional development program that focuses on how literacy is changing as a result of emerging media and technologies. The Rhode Island Library Association
is a professional organization that serves its members through career development, education, advocacy, networking partnerships and legislative action .
The RILA Bulletin is produced by the RILA Communications Committee. The RILA Communications Committee is responsible for publicizing and supporting Rhode Island Library Association activities using a variety of communication tools. Responsibilities include publishing the RILA Bulletin, managing social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and exploring other mediums as needed.

Rhode Island Library Association members can contribute content to the RILA Bulletin by  submitting an article  or emailing the editors:  communications@rilibraries.org.
