Commemorate our Revolutionary Neighbors this Memorial Day

Memorials to the sacrifices of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy are all around us. On the last Monday in May, communities throughout the United States pause to remember our neighbors' defense of our nation with parades, events and ceremonies.

In New Jersey, we're fortunate to have many opportunities to build a deeper understanding and respect for those sacrifices through our Revolutionary heritage. We hope you'll join us in recognizing those who fought for our independence in a time when it was anything but guaranteed.

Annual meeting highlights Crossroads achievements, potential

New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way emphasized the importance of the state's Revolutionary-era history at the annual meeting of the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area on April 18 in Trenton.

More than 50 Crossroads Heritage Partners and friends of NJ history attended the meeting at Thomas Edison State University to hear Secretary Way's thoughts, an update on Crossroads' progress in 2017 and plans for the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Before the meeting, the Crossroads board elected a new president, Ira Jersey, and two new trustees, Joshua Henne and Rocky Peterson. The board also expressed its gratitude to retiring board president Patrick Murray.

Crossroads signage to be unveiled May 23

Trenton's Old Barracks Museum becomes the first Heritage Partner to host Crossroads-branded interpretive signage this spring! Celebrate with us, the Old Barracks and the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce as we unveil the sign at 101 Barrack Street, Trenton, on May 23 at 3:15 p.m.

The sign is part of a prominent and cohesive identify designed for New Jersey's Revolutionary War-related sites, with an eye toward driving visitorship and promoting the state's crucial role in the war.   Many thanks to signage sponsors NJM Insurance and First Bank for helping to make this sign possible.

Interested in sponsoring Crossroads-branded signage at your local Revolutionary Heritage site? Contact Janice Selinger by email or at 609-341-3245 to learn more.

Flat Stanley visits Revolutionary New Jersey

The famed Flat Stanley discovered Revolutionary New Jersey this spring after a fourth grader named Theo sent him to Crossroads. A student at Westminster Elementary School in Westminster, MA, Theo asked us to help him learn about New Jersey. We took him on a tour of several Revolutionary War sites and other important historical places. He also got an introduction to pork roll!

Flat Stanley is on his way back to Theo with photos of his adventures, information on all of his stops in New Jersey, and a special tricorn hat for Theo.
