Dr. Kelly will address the utilization of cognitive technology in today's businesses. He will also provide an update on the Jefferson Project at Lake George, a collaboration between Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, IBM Research, and The FUND for Lake George.

Dr. Kelly and his team were responsible for advancing the science of cognitive computing through his support for IBM Watson.

Dr. Kelly completed his undergraduate studies at Union College and he earned his Master's degree and Doctorate from RPI.

Lakes to Locks Passage Photo Contest

SENSE OF PLACE PHOTO CONTEST - ENTER BY JULY 2

Lakes to Locks Passage recently launched its first annual photo contest. To help spread the word and highlight the beauty of the byway, Lakes to Locks wants residents and visitors to share their favorite spot on the Lakes to Locks Passage scenic byway...whether they're paddling Lake Champlain, hiking a trail, exploring an historic building or quaint village, crossing a lock on the Champlain Canal, or learning about the history hidden in these stunning landscapes.

Entry Details
Upload your images by July 2. You've got plenty of options, places, and scenes to choose from. You don't need to be a professional. Just get out, explore, and snap a picture. (Or send one from a previous year.) Show the places you love -- and tell why you love them. There are two age categories: Kids (16 and under) and Adults. All are welcome!

Local businesses are encouraged to donate prizes that will be given to the winners of the photo contest.

June 6 - 9: DirtDaze Adventure Bike Rally, Lake Luzerne

DirtDAZE, an adventure bike rally, will be held in Lake Luzerne June 6-9 in coordination with the annual Americade rally in Lake George, the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce announced.

The adventure bike rally will be held on private property in Lake Luzerne, with access to dirt roads for riding.

Registered attendees of DirtDAZE receive free admission to the Americade Expo in Lake George.

Rockwell Kent (American, 1882-1971), Flame, 1928, wood engraving, 8 x 5 ½ in., Collection of Ralf C. Nemec.

Rockwell Kent was a polarizing figure: An acclaimed artist and printmaker, a household name as traveler and author, his private mores scandalized family and friends, his social activism his political adversaries. His politics garnered him a certain degree of notoriety, while his art earned him critical acclaim.

The Hyde Collection has two exhibitions of the artist's works in three mediums.

There are more jobs than people out of work

The jobs market has reached what should be some kind of inflection point: there are now more openings than there are workers. April marked the second month in a row this historic event has occurred, and the gap is growing.

Interestingly, while the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.8 percent, tied for the lowest rate since 1969, the level of those falling out of the workforce has surged. The total of those counted as not in the labor force is now at a record 95.9 million, a 21 percent rise over the past decade.
