Dear Parents, Staff, and Community Members,

We remain committed to making sure our students benefit from in-person learning for as long as possible.  While we are noticing a recent increase in the metrics related to new case counts and positivity rates, our schools continue to provide safe, quality, in-person learning, and we want to keep it this way as long as we can.

Working Together
To uphold our commitment to continue maximizing in-person learning in our buildings, it is critical for our community to maintain vigilance during this time.  The weather is turning colder, requiring more indoor living. What we do outside the school day matters. Our ability to maintain the hybrid learning model depends on the availability of our workforce, and all individuals making healthy choices. Decisions about personal contact, travel, and whether to follow safety recommendations impact our entire school community.

In order to help mitigate transmission rates in Winnetka, please continue to:

  • Practice social distancing
  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Travel with caution
  • Stay home when sick

Metrics Dashboard
As you are likely aware, our region is currently experiencing a rise in new COVID-19 cases and positivity rates. This is reflected when looking at the data included in the District's COVID-19 Metrics Dashboard. The data is monitored at least weekly by School Board members, administration, and the Winnetka Education Association (WEA) leadership.  The team reviews data to recommend modifications to mitigation efforts and potential changes to the school model.  The District posts the weekly dashboard data on its website every Friday, so the information was most recently updated today.

We use this data to evaluate mitigation efforts and next steps. Please keep in mind, when making decisions to manage the risk of exposure to COVID-19, we are looking at trends over time versus a single data point. In this brief video, I will share how we use the dashboard inclusive of recent data trends.

We will continue to monitor our regional and local health data with the goal of maximizing our in-person learning as long as we are safely able to do so within public health constraints. We appreciate the many sacrifices our school community has made for our collective well-being. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to navigate this situation with the goal of keeping our families, staff, and neighbors as safe as possible.  Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent
