Join us this week as we continue our exploration into the book of Acts. This week we step back and look at the first members of the new and growing church. How does this moment in the story of Acts give us a glimpse at the power of community to co-create an ever-expanding vision of the gospel of Jesus Christ? Kevin Lowry
's sermon is entitled "Building A Movement,
" and
the scriptures are Psalm 91 and Acts 2:42-47. Our Lay Worship Leader is Harriet Wadsworth.
Music Notes: Our music this Sunday centers on the theme of placing one's trust in God, celebrating the collective faith of the worshipping faithful in this season of Easter. The extended prelude comprises Bach's partita variations on the chorale "Jesu, Saviour, heed my greeting, kind and gentle is Thy being." The Anthem's text rejoices that God always hears our prayers, saying, "Thou hast granted my request, Thou hast heard me." While the music up to this point reflects gladness and joy in our faith, the offertory introduces a more quiet, entreating manifestation of trust, with Purcell's beautiful anthem "Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts." As the music for the service grows more introspective, the quiet, introspective joy brought about by Easter manifests in the slow movement from Paul Hindemith's second organ sonata, played as the postlude."
Children

Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 6:
The session has called the annual
meeting
of the congregation for
Sunday, May 6
immediately following worship. We will gather together for a time of fellowship with snacks provided by the deacons, engage in Bible study, and hear reports on the Dowd Commons renovation and the state of the church. At

, we will head outside to put our faith into action by helping to beautify the grounds of the church. Tasks for all levels of participation are being identified by the trustees, so wear comfortable clothes to worship and join us for 30-60 minutes of outside work (weather permitting). Jason Katsaros and Grace Cammarn grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio, and now live in downtown Cleveland. Grace studied Statistics, and Environmental Studies at Case Western Reserve University and Jason studied Computer Science and Software Engineering at Miami University of Ohio. Grace is a data analyst at Progressive Insurance and Jason is a software developer at Hyland Software. Jason and Grace got engaged in October 2017 and will be getting married in Wadsworth, Ohio in late July. Their pastimes include seeing shows at Playhouse Square and hanging out with their playful cat, Quimby. They are both very excited to call the Church of the Covenant their new church home.

Outreach Opportunities
Airport Rides for College Students - Can you help?
The end of the academic year is fast approaching! Covenant Student Ministries is looking to create a team of volunteer drivers to take students to the airport to catch flights home for the summer. This program will run from April 30th to May 21st. CWRU, CIM, and CIA students will be able to request rides and we will match them with available drivers. Are you willing to give up an hour or so of your time to pick someone up from the Church parking lot and take them to Cleveland Hopkins Airport? Seeking Volunteer Help with the Sanctuary Sound System
We are grateful for your patience in worship as our sound system is repaired. In the meantime, we are seeking additional volunteers to help run the system during worship and other occasional events in the sanctuary. Although some experience with audio equipment would be helpful, we will also offer training on the system. Please contact Amy Starr Redwine if you are willing to assist with this vital ministry that makes our worship accessible to all.
Walk Against Hunger
This year, the church staff will join other University Circle institutions in the 8th Annual Circle Challenge: The Wade Oval Walk Against Hunger on Friday, May 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please support the staff in our efforts to fight hunger by making a donation of support, either by making a
financial
contribution of cash or a check made out to Harvest for Hunger, by bringing a donation of non-perishable food to the church office, or by joining us on the walk! We are grateful for your support.
The Harvest for Hunger Campaign is one of the largest hunger relief campaigns in the nation, collecting enough money and food to provide 50 million meals in 2017 to hungry people in Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland and Richland counties. Dollars raised through the Harvest for Hunger campaign make food available to local hunger centers for free. For every dollar donated to Harvest for Hunger, four nutritious meals will be provided to those in need in our community.

Church Happenings
Collaboration Concert
On Friday, April 20, over 160 musicians gathered in our sanctuary to perform John Rutter's moving "Mass of the Children." We welcomed into our homes for the week the Toronto Bach Children's Choir which joined choristers from the Beaumont School and Padre Pio Academy.
Youth Mission Fundraiser
Gracias, Merci, Danke sehr, ありがとう, Thank you!!! Much gratitude and appreciation to all those who "Traveled the World on Earth Day" with the youth and helped them raise funds for their summer mission experiences. The reception room was filled with delicious homemade foods from various cultures, eco-friendly place settings, and much laughter as Chris Langmack and Melanie Marsh Baum facilitated the bidding wars on "mystery packages" from around the world. It was an afternoon to remember and a successful journey bringing our diverse generations and backgrounds together for a common cause.
