Rocket Report
Vol. 2, No. 37, May 15, 2019
Rush Report
The school year is winding down and this next Rush Report finds me looking out my window on the midway of Mayfest.  All is quiet now, but in the next several hours our school campus will change from a quiet place of education to a loud place of enjoyment.  Moments like this make me appreciate the specialness of St. Roch and our school families, so that is the theme of this Rush Report!

St. Roch would just be a group of buildings and an address if not for our students, teachers, staff, parents, and Father Hunter.  Each one of the people that belong to the Saint Roch family brings something special to us. Our students bring academic, athletic, and creative abilities to our campus.  Our teachers and school staff brings years of experience working with students to help them grow and prosper in an ever-changing world. Our parish staff brings experience working with budgets, planning of events, and helping people in need.  Our priest brings a world of experience helping people through the happiest and saddest times of their lives. Our parents bring us their children and trust us to nurture and educate them through their school lives.

Our parents are the ones I think most of this time of year!  I just left the Mayfest tent and there was a group of dads and moms volunteering their time to set-up for Mayfest.  Anytime we ask for help or support from our parents, you guys are their to lend a hand and help out. We are blessed to have an active Men’s Club, Women’s Club, PTO, and School Commission that are staffed with our school parents.  Each of these clubs and organizations work tirelessly to keep our school going and help keep us successful at meeting the needs of our students. In addition to our clubs, we have parents and grandparents that help us maintain our grounds and property.  We have parents that volunteer for field trips, Roch-a-Thon, field day, and Mayfest. Anytime the call goes out for help, there is a group of parents that step in to lend a hand. Finally, we have parents and grandparents that own or work for businesses that help us in a multitude of ways each and every year.  I just wanted to take this time to say thank you to all of our parents this special time of year.

Thank you to everyone that helps make St. Roch Catholic School and Parish a special place and not just an address!  You are loved and appreciated! Let Mayfest begin!

Questions:

What are the clubs mentioned in the Rush Report that keep our school going?
What do our teachers and staff bring to Saint Roch each day?
What time of year is it at St. Roch?
What would St. Roch be without our parents and volunteers?  (This is kind of an inferencing question. The answer is here, but it will require a little thought.  You can do it!!)
See if you can find the mistake I made on purpose.  Let me know about all the mistakes I made accidentally also.

MayFest

• 1 student = $65
• 2 students = $90
• 3 or more students = $115
Adult Volunteers (and 6th Graders)
We need everyone’s help to make MayFest a success! We are asking that every parent volunteer for at least one shift during Mayfest (if you are a 2 parent household, we need BOTH parents to work a shift). There are MANY people who go above and beyond this request! We have times and opportunities to fit everyone’s schedules. And as usual, we will need people to help work the booths, Monte Carlo area, food areas, etc. Please sign up using the link below.

Sixth grade students wishing to earn service hours may sign up with an adult on this link for Kid’s games only.
7th & 8th Grade Students
Each 7th and 8th grade student is required to work 1 shift during Mayfest. Please note that the sign up has been set up a little differently this year and we are allowing the 7th and 8th graders to work a shift with their peers. We will not be using money for the kids games this year, they will be using punch cards. It is imperative that the students show up for their shifts, be on time, and manage the games responsibly as this is a fundraiser for the school.
CYO Football Sign ups
2019 CYO FOOTBALL EARLY SIGN UPS GRADES 3-8
CYO is planning to make a few rules changes in the 2019 season, particularly at the 34 level where they will be moving to a 7 on 7 tackle format. The parishes of St Roch, Holy Name, St Mark and Central Catholic partner together to make the South Central Catholic Football program. As you can imagine a combined program requires a great deal of coordination and planning. In order to effectively plan for the upcoming season in terms of coaches, equipment and so forth we are having an early sign up period FOR ALL PLAYERS GRADES 3-8. If your son wishes to play football in 2019 you must sign up on the link below NO LATER THAN MAY 25th. You do not need to pay the CYO fee until August, but if you do not sign up with the link below we cannot guarantee a spot on the team. It should take less than 3 minutes. Thank you! -John Andrews

IU Summer Program
The IU Game Development Camp is in its 7th year and offers a chance for students interested in computers, art, development, and design to create their own game projects. Our week-long sessions engage participants in every aspect of game development, and by the end of each week, students will have created a working game prototype from scratch.

Participants aged 13-18 will have the opportunity to explore 2D and 3D game development using cutting-edge industry technology on the IU Bloomington campus, and we offer both day camp and overnight options for out-of-town students. Four sessions run through June, and this year, we're once again excited to offer Girlpowered!, a camp which seeks to engage young women in technology and design. We have plenty of scholarship opportunities still available. Full details can be found here:  http://gamecamp.indiana.edu . Also, I'd be happy to come give a presentation about our Media School's summer offerings. Let me know if that's of interest!
