Sermon:
"The Uprising of Stewardship Part Two
"
Scripture
: 11 Corinthians 8:7-15
This Sunday
This week, we'll celebrate the end of our mini-Stewardship campaign. We'll celebrate the ways we have been able to support our staff and our mission in this place through giving of our time and treasure and talents. Mostly though, we'll work with the connection between stewardship and love. For those who have been reading McLaren, we have been told that stewardship is love in action. Our Scripture this week reminds us that we can abound in grace, no matter our resources or what we can give. We'll hear from Paul in Corinth, where he always reminds us that nothing has any value without love and that we are called to God's reality of abundance, through grace. Read Brian McLaren's We Make the Road by Walking Chapter 38 and 2 Corinthians 8: 7-15 to prepare.

Blog from Pastors, CLT Chair,
and Chair of Finance
Pastor Brad, Pastor Laura, Joe Lee, Chair of CLT
and Jim Phillips, Chair of Finance Team
Your faithful giving to the church budget is gratefully appreciated and valued by the leaders and staff of the church.
As you know, we are in the final week of our Mini-Stewardship campaign, focusing on the staff this spring. The church staff dedicates themselves and their time to keeping our church moving forward in faith, hope, love, and service week in and week out. That has not changed and will not change. However, during the course of the spring campaign, additional information about the finances of the church has come to light and we wanted to share it with you in the most timely way we can. There are two issues we want to make sure you understand.
The first issue is our current operating budget . . .
The second issue has to do with our overall cash situation . . .

Church Dinner & Common Table
Monday, May 20
On Monday May 20 we will have a church potluck dinner at 6:30pm. Please bring a main dish to share! Following diner there will be a Common Table meeting at 7:00pm. Jim Phillips, the chairperson of the church Finance Team, and Pastor Brad will lead an information session and discussion about the state of the church. There have been some financial setbacks that we would like to explain to the congregation so there is full understanding of our status.
This is part of our current focus on who we are and the important ways that God has called us to be in ministry here. Attending this session is the best way to gain a fuller understanding of the finances of the church and especially the operating budget. While talking about money may not be anyone's favorite thing to do at church, not talking about it can mean that key information is not accessible to the people who need it. There will be three agenda items.
1. The budget cycle running from July 2018-June 2019 and how this fiscal year is turning out
2. A series of withdrawals from our "Foundation" account, a savings account that we rely on for major expenses
3. Current hopes and dreams for this church, including progress on becoming a Reconciling Congregation
This information is vitally important to all members and active participants in the church. Please plan to be there. Sign up on Sunday's attendance form or contact the church office if you will come to the dinner or if you need childcare.
If you can not attend this meeting, the slides from the presentation will be available in the Narthex on Sunday morning and there will be a written summary of the information for electronic distribution.
Core Leaders will meet at 6:00, immediately before the Common Table meeting.

Stewardship Sunday - May 19
We hope that you've had time to pray about your pledge to support Aldersgate's staff, programs and missions for the six-month budget of July 1 - December 31, 2019. Our theme has been "Who We Are." We have been highlighting our staff and the amazing ministry work they do. Last Sunday, Christian Hampson and Peter Coffee shared their experience with our Music Ministries and Directors.
In case you missed our Stewardship mailing and weekly Stewardship Moments, please got to
http://aldersgate-church.org/stewardship/
to view the Stewardship page on our website. We hope ALL who call Aldersgate their church home will give so that we can fully fund all our ministries and grow in service to others. Please return your pledge card this
Sunday, May 19th
or drop it by the church office. Your pledge is an invaluable part of planning for the future at Aldersgate, so that we can continue to be a place where ALL are welcome.

Summer Worship Schedule for 2019
This summer, our Worship Team has decided to hold one worship service each Sunday at 10:00am from July 7 through September 1. We will worship together as one body at one time for all of July and August and on Labor Day weekend. We will move back to two services on September 8. The exact format of the services is not yet known. Some weeks may feel more contemporary and some may feel more traditional, but every week will be an opportunity to praise God together with joy and thanksgiving. We hope you will be here whenever it's possible with your summer activity schedule.

Church Directory
Concerned that the on-line church directory was vulnerable to hackers, we removed access to it from the church website until we figure out how to make it more secure. In the mean time, we left some paper copies of the church directory on the desk in the narthex if you need one. As always, please send updated family photos and contact information to Wendi in the office. It is amazing how some people never seem to get any older!

Volunteer @ VBS 2019
We need many volunteers at all different levels to make Vacation Bible School a success. Prayerfully consider helping out prior to VBS, during VBS (Monday-Thursday, July 22-25) or at the church picnic (Sunday July 28). There are opportunities to work directly with kids, completely behind the scenes, and everything in between. Talk to Jen and see how your gifts could best be utilized at Vacation Bible School. VBS is a great outreach into our community
as we focus on how we can be bold with our faith and go beyond the ordinary. VBS is also an important time within our church family where we deepen relationships with one another as we work together.

To the Friends and Family of Charles Roger Nicklett, from his brother Gary:
As I am sure all of you have heard by now, our friend and brother, Chuck (Rog),died on April 6. For any of you who wish to attend, we are having a small memorial service for him on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00am at Barton Funeral Services, located at 11630 Slater Ave. NE Suite 1A, Kirkland, WA 98034. Naturally, everyone is welcome, however, please do not feel as though any of you are expected to appear at either the memorial service or the placing of cremains in the columbarium at Kirkland Cemetery following the service. We all welcome any friends, relatives, neighbors, or former neighbors, or fellow church worshipers who wish to say goodbye with us to our brother, either at the memorial service or at the cemetery. We will not be having a formal gathering after the cemetery, although if any of you wish to get together individually, that is up to you. Thanks to the kind support many of you have offered in terms of cards and well-wishes in this difficult time.
Warmest regards, Gary and Deb
