REX Development Submits 2018-2023 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy to US EDA
On May 30, REX Development submitted the 5-year update of the South Central Connecticut Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy the U.S. Economic Development Administration. This year-long endeavor was led by the Strategic Planning Committee, co-chaired by First Selectman Mike Freda of North Haven and John Emra, President of AT&T Connecticut.
To define the goals, objectives and action items, REX Development's Strategic Planning Committee established working subcommittees in the following areas: Business Development and Recruitment; Workforce and Housing; Infrastructure; Real Estate, Land Use and Sustainability; and Marketing, Communications and Stakeholder Education. Each subcommittee gathered information from a broad spectrum of stakeholders and data sources.

State asks FEMA to do storm damage assessment next week
The state has formally asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to conduct a joint damage assessment in Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties from the May 15 tornadoes and macroburst.
The request is asking for the preliminary damage assessments to begin next week.
The state's Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will coordinate the damage assessment with FEMA and the affected towns, cities, and state agencies.
The assessment is a key step toward getting federal funding for storm damage and cleanup.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Phase II of the Hamden Business Incubator
The Hamden Economic Development Corporation held a groundbreaking on May 21 for Phase II of the Hamden Business Incubator project. Phase I included the replacement of the roof and cleanout of the asbestos and other hazardous materials. At the end of this phase the incubator will welcome its first tenants in the spring of 2019.

Mills Property Transfer Completed
The City of Meriden and the Meriden Housing Authority completed the property swap at the Mills housing site in downtown Meriden. Under the agreement, the City has taken title to the Mills property, located at 144 Pratt Street, in exchange for the 62 Cedar Street, which has been transferred to the Housing Authority. The City of Meriden previously approved the transfer of 177 State Street and 62 Cedar Street to the Meriden Housing Authority in exchange for 144 Pratt Street (also known as 144 Mills Memorial) for the purposes of demolishing the Mills Memorial Housing Complex and construction of the Harbor Brook Flood Control Project.
