Reflection for Worship. . .
Acts 11:1-18
'What God has made clean, you must not call profane.' Our text for Sunday is focused on circumcision and dietary laws which set the Jewish people apart from others. But that commandment from God to Peter sounds an awful lot like the other 10 - which can be applied to multiple situations even now. The Holy Spirit also chimes in here, "The Spirit told me to go with them and not to make a distinction between them and us." Make no distinction between us and them, them and us. These were radical ideas 2000 years ago. They are apparently radical ideas now - as we build walls and levy tariffs and align ourselves with political parties, genders, nationalities, religious beliefs - to the exclusion of all others.
Believe it or not, "Radical Inclusion" is one of the 10 Guiding Principles of Burning Man, an "out there" art festival and annual gathering of people who are not at home in the default world. I'm thinking that Burning Man has some ideas that we might be open to - ideas about how to practice what we preach. Let's talk about it. See you Sunday.
"Isn't it amazing that we are all made in God's image,
and yet there is so much diversity among his [sic] people?"
- Desmond Tutu (b.1931) South African social rights activist, retired Anglican bishop

New Bibles to be Dedicated and Placed in our Pews
Due to the extra pews in our new worship space, Nina has purchased new Bibles to fill the extra pews and you are invited to buy a few to dedicate to someone. Please leave a check for Nina in the amount of $20 with the dedication you wish to be included in the front inside of the Bible. We suggest only 1 or 2 persons be listed in each Bible so that each is more personal.

Lu & Bruno Nguyen's Post Wedding Celebration
As you all know, Bruno and I were (finally) married late last year, during a really busy and hectic time - with it being a little over a week until Christmas and with the church packing and moving shortly thereafter. With the love and support of family, a few dear friends, and in particular Marlene, as well as Sallie - we pulled off a beautiful and intimate ceremony. During this time, my best friend Marjorie Scanlan wanted to throw us a wedding shower, but it was simply impossible due to planning and time constraints. Now, after 5 months of trying to coordinate our schedules and settle on a date, I am finally able to celebrate with my beloved church family and friends. So please join us in Fellowship Hall at FUMC on Saturday, June 8th, from 1-4 p.m. for some food, laughter and festivities. Hopefully you are able to attend, and if so, please RSVP to the email invitation that was sent out, or to Lu Nguyen. Thanks!
Graciously hosted by Marjorie Scanlan.

Update on Rosa and her Family
FCC Pasadena has joined Neighborhood UU Church and others in Pasadena to surround them with our love and financial support. This is an update on her and her family:
Rosa plans to move her family to New Orleans next month to be near more Hondurans and to live in a more affordable region of the country. Rosa is working through the legal system to file her papers and check in weekly with her Asylum status. Her application won't be filed until Dec. 2019 and then a hearing will be held after that.
There is now a volunteer coordinator at Neighborhood Church helping to connect folks with the family. Please contact Suzanne Smith at 323-333-1630 if you can volunteer or [email protected]
You may also contact Joey Bland who heads up our Discipleship Ministry for ideas about how we might support Rosa and her family.

June 15 - Outdoor Jazz Concert featuring the Thursday Morning Little Big Band
A favorite from past seasons, the Thursday Morning Little Big Band returns for an open-air concert of classic jazz on the courtyard in front of the church building.
July 20 - Christmas in July: Aaron Shows, organist
There is so much great Christmas music - why not enjoy it mid-year? Always striving first to connect emotionally with audiences of every age through music, Aaron Shows' performances and compositions often bridge the traditional and modern.
