Boston Mayor Marty Walsh Helps Community Servings Break Ground on
New "Food Campus"
|
Community Servings broke ground last week on our future "Food Campus" at 179 Amory Street with Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Massachusetts Department of Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Monica Bharel, MD, MPH
The $21 million project will enable us to triple our production of medically tailored meals to meet increasing demand, double the capacity for daily volunteers, and double the number of food service job-training graduates. The event was a celebration with leadership from our city and state, and key philanthropic supporters of the Food is the Foundation capital campaign, which to date has surpassed 80 percent of its $10 million fundraising goal.

Teaching Kitchen Graduation
On Thursday, June 20, our hardworking trainees
will be the 38th class to graduate from
Community Servings' Teaching Kitchen.
Congratulations
!
The Teaching Kitchen is our free job-training program for people interested in careers in the food service industry who may face barriers to full-time employment. As they learn food preparation and cooking techniques, trainees also help our culinary team prepare meals for our clients.

Healthy Summer Beverage for the Win! |
Whether you're at the beach, a cookout, or relaxing in your backyard, summer activities are always better with a fruity drink in hand. Unfortunately, sugar-sweetened beverages, such as soda, sweet coffee drinks, fruit punch, and other sweetened juices may lead to weight gain, diabetes, and heart disease.
Our dietitians recommend drinking water to quench your thirst, but if you're in the mood for something a little more special, try adding fruit or small amounts of 100% fruit juice to your water, or try seltzer, unsweetened tea or coffee.

This is a refreshing alternative to a sugar-sweetened soda. Using real lime juice and cucumber gives the drink a nice bright flavor without any added sugar. Mint sprigs can also be added for another refreshing flavor note.
