Lady Mary and the Indwelling Holy Spirit:
An Advent Engagement
|
|
“The contemplative state, like the vocation of Mary, brings Christ into this world”- Fr. Thomas Keating
How many of us ever think of Our Lady as a Contemplative, or as a Mystic? Join with us as we explore the “Incarnational instant” as “Mary’s Personal Pentecost” which ushers in the “Christ Event” of birth, death and resurrection. Hear with new ears Mary’s given title as “fullness of grace”, the first and highest and most perfect fruit of the Holy Spirit, the Icon of the Holy Spirit, Holy Wisdom Sophia which serves as a repository of Beauty, Truth, the Good. Appreciate with us that Mary is an essential part of the revelation of who we are as individuals (persons) and as collectives (Church). By becoming as transparent as Mary in her Fiat, living solely for Christ, in full kenosis for the revelation of the fulfillment of humankind, we become the Bearers of the Presence. By assuming the contemplative stance of least resistance to the impingement of grace, we too become icons of the Holy Spirit, for it has no other.
So please join us in this Advent witness to the unfolding of the submerged reality of the kingdom celebrated for millennia in the Eucharistic Liturgy. It is here where we are called from all corners by the Adeste fidelis to “lift up our hearts” in contemplation, join together with all the angels and saints, and to usher in the glory of the Lord with our Holy, Holy Holy.
The morning will include three 30 minute periods of centering prayer and an interactive discussion.

Contemplative Outreach of Maryland and Washington (COMW)
Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.
This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
