Kings is Back on the Ballot
How to calculate the cost of the upcoming bond issue

The March 17, 2020 Primary Election ballot will include Issue 8, Kings Local Schools 4.7 mill bond issue to fund the District's Facility Master Plan.

The cost to the Homeowner and Business Owner is approximately $13.75 per month for every $100,000 of true property value. To understand how much the district’s 4.7-mill bond levy might cost your household, you will need to know your home’s  true  value as determined by your county auditor. Visit the  Warren County Auditor’s page . You can find information on your property by name or address. See the video below that gives an overview of bond issue cost.

For more information about the Facilities Master Plan, the 2020 bond, and voting information visit www.kingsfacilities.org .
An Update from the Treasurer's Office
with Kings Treasurer & CFO, Cary Furniss
We strive to be excellent stewards of the financial investment our taxpayers make in our District

The Kings Local School District made a commitment during the 2016 operating levy campaign to make the levy last at least 3 years. Currently, the levy is in its 4th year and is working towards extending it for a 5th year between requests.

Several initiatives have been undertaken to stretch the levy that are not obvious, in an effort to reduce costs without impacting services. Here is a list of those initiatives and the annual savings.

  • Increased the employee portion of administrators health insurance - $67,000 savings
  • Re-bid dental insurance contract and moved coverage to a new provider - $49,271 savings
  • Bid the electric and natural gas supply contract resulting in an annual savings of $37,619
  • Refinanced a portion of the outstanding bonds from 1994, 1997, and 2007, resulting in a one-time savings of $1.555 million dollars.

Additionally, the District has taken steps to have it's available cash work harder along with slightly better investment returns. The District has increased investment income from $4,108 in 2016 to $452,751 in 2019.

Thank you to Mr. Furniss for his diligence and fiscal responsibility in maintaining the finances of the District!
KME Teacher Uses Grant to Give Back
Kings Mills Elementary Second Grade teacher, Sherisse Washington was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from Foresters Financial to spend on resources that would benefit a non-profit organization.

She teamed up with Susan Simendinger of Joshua’s Place to see where the grant money could best be spent. It was decided to purchase five industrial-type cabinets to be placed in school buildings stocked with day-time nutrition, hydration, and personal hygiene supplies for students that have need. School counselors will distribute supplies to students discreetly during the school day.

On February 1, 2020, thirteen volunteers met at Joshua’s Place to assemble the cabinets and baskets. The project took three hours to complete and was a great example of teamwork.

Washington said, "The cabinets are a great way for schools to house the items and for students to select what they need." Way to be #KingsStrong, Mrs. Washington!
