Bonnet Carre’ Spillway Yesterday and Today

On the afternoon of Friday, May 9 th , the US Army Corp of Engineers opened the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway for the second time in 2019. This is the 1 st time in the nearly 90 year history of the flood control structure it has been opened twice during the same high water period. Dr. Gordon Gunter, 3 rd director of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, wrote about the annual flows of the Mississippi River and the impacts of releasing fresh water into Lake Pontchartrain, which eventually makes its way to the Mississippi Sound in three articles:

Resource of the month:
"E-Journals"
E-Journals
On the left side of the homepage for University Libraries, there is a link to “E-Journals.” When you click that link, you go to a search box where you can type in the name of a journal to see if USM has access to the full text.
For example, if you type “Environmental Biology of Fishes,” you get a result like the one below.
You have access to the full text with a one year “embargo” via EBSCOhost and access to full text for 03/01/1997 - 12/31/2016 via Springer-Nature.
If you are using any online library resource and not at a USM IP address, then you will be asked to log in with your SOAR w# and password for access.
