Bible Study
St. Jerome's stands as people of God, with Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are here to represent Christ to all people, act as good stewards to all of God's creation and support each other by sharing our strengths as we continue God's work in the world.

Thursday Bible Study at 10:30 AM

  Dear Folks:
The time frame between Christ's Resurrection and the feast of Pentecost was 50 days in the biblical times as it is now.

Pentecost was celebrated by Jewish custom as the feast of Shavuot. One of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals. The feast celebrates the revelation of the Five Books of the Torah (or the Old Testament of the Christian Bible) by God to Moses and to the Israelites at Mount Sinai, 49 days (7 weeks) after the Exodus from Egypt. It also commemorates the harvesting of wheat  in the Land of Israel.

As God acted in days of old by giving the law to the Israelites on the 50th day following setting them free from the Egyptians, so God was filling them anew with the Holy Spirit 50 days after they were set free through the resurrection of Christ Jesus.

Our reading this week will cover the gathering of the Jews to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. There they experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Peter and the other disciples.
Read Acts 2:1-24
