Hello Everybody,

as if Vladimir isn't busy enough with his latest compilation Human Way, he's managed to finish some small pieces for us to enjoy as well.

As for Sandi, well she surpasses her own talents with her new painting Maftet.

Sandi will be flying up from her home in Australia next week to join all of us celebrating the gifts and talents of the gallery's amazing artists with the Annual Artist's Anniversary Reception on Friday 24th May 5pm - 8pm. Sandi will also spend some days painting in the courtyard, so definitely feel welcome to come by and watch her make it look so easy as she creates magic before our very eyes. So visit us and enjoy a lovely glass of wine while listening to one of New Mexico's premier Flamenco Guitarists, Joaquin Gallegos as he performs live at the gallery that evening.

Email or call me for any questions of course. I look forward in hearing from you very soon,

I'm here every day 10am - 5pm, Sunday's until 4pm

Cheers,
Lisa

1. The ancient believed that stars are ruling over human destiny
and viewed them as deities or at least divine messengers. The
great divine mothers, such as goddess Ishtar and Virgin Mary
were adorned with crowns of stars.
2. Wishing on a shooting star also dates way back in history.
A falling star connects Heaven and Earth and is a sign of their
union - a perfect moment for submitting your request to the
universe.
3. Standing before something as vast and awesome as Cosmos
you can't help asking it for some favor. However, you should
wait for a signal to do that. The stars themselves will send it if
the timing is right (and if they are in a mood to do so!)
4. It is said that if you see a shooting star, you should make a
wish before it falls and your wish will come true.

5. For this couple, lost in the infinite cosmic space, perhaps
the main question is whether they are meant for each other.
6. Nesting Worlds:
We see just a small square of life floating in the boundless and
desolate darkness of Cosmos; and we see a young man who,
having opened the curtains, looks eagerly through the window,
searching for an answer to his question. He is in a house on
planet Earth, which revolves around the Sun and is only one
of nine planets of the Solar System. In turn, the Sun itself is
one of 500,000 stars that form the Milky Way Galaxy!
7. In the words of the 18th century English poet William Blake:
"If the doors of perception were cleansed, every thing would
appear to man as it is, Infinite" (The Marriage of Heaven
and Hell)

The third of delights is when you are loved
Ever aware of someone right near,
By word unobtrusive together bound hard
The two of us fly over the hollows of fear.
From the poem "Delights" by Valery Bryusov

Night, the Two and the Moon are the favorite themes of poets of all times, trans lating these subjects as the "Romance of Love". Nevertheless, the traditional  symbolism is gaining its original cosmic meaning. The lovers are joining in ec- stasy, taking off from the earth and fleeing into the blackness of infinity. As the  poets had put it: the knowing of being loved "gives the wings to fly". The origi nality of the traditional concept interpretation is in the direction of the view into  the depth beyond the painting dimensions.

Similar motif appears in the painting "Ascent of the Blessed" by the first
Metaphorical artist Hieronymus Bosch, painted more then 500 years ago.

Maftet
By Sandi Lear
Original Water Colour painting
Watercolour on Arches 300gsm
18" x 24"

"Maftet - she who runs fast" to the ancient Egyptians these fastest of all land animals were honoured and revered, gracing the halls of the finest palaces and pampered, expressing grace, power, litheness and a reigned savagery.  Maftet is the deification of legal justice and offered protection of the Pharoah's chambers, she also offered protection against venomous animals.  Bringing up as many as five cubs in her litter, as with human mothers she gives life, nourishment, protection and the lessons of life in a harsh and challenging environment using all her speed, stealth and cunning to beat nature's odds."
