Here is an update of what is happening at
House of Prayer this week!

Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you." And he replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking at those who sat around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."
Mark 3:31-35
In this scripture Jesus offers what seems to be a jarring rejection of his family. His mother and brother come to see and he refuses to let them in! Instead, Jesus turns to his disciples and calls them his family. Jesus is demonstrating family loyalty to those who do God's will. He is declaring he will commit to give everything to others and willingly make sacrifices for those outside his own family. This challenging text pushes us to consider our commitment to the human family rather than limiting our care and concern to our biological family. Join us Sunday as we consider the nature of family and God's love for all people.

House of Prayer's Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, June 14 at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Dinner will be served at 6:00pm. Please RSVP for dinner on the attendance card in the bulletin.

Outdoor Worship at HOP
Don't miss it! On June 24th we will have our annual outdoor worship service on the Chicago Avenue lawn at 10:00am, combining both services into one fabulous extravaganza! Helping Our Literal

The housing nonprofit Aeon purchased the Season's Park Apartments just south of church this past year and are now working to address years of previously ignored maintenance needs. They'd like community help with some basic landscaping projects to clean up and beautify the complex so residents can be proud to call it home. Join us after church on Sunday, June 10th, from 12:30-3:00pm. No landscaping experience necessary and all ages can help. Contact Ben Whalen at

Fourth of July Parade
Join the House of Prayer group and march in the Richfield 4th of July Parade! This is a great chance to celebrate with the community and spread the word about what we're doing together. The Veggie Table
This summer we
continue our partnership with Second Harvest to offer free produce to the community (previously called The Gardener's Market) but in a new form as "The Veggie Table." On July 10, August 4, September 11, and October 9, we'll be at the parking lot of Season's Park Apartments from 5-7pm to hand out free produce, have snacks, and socialize with our neighbors. Community Gardeners Wanted
As the warm spring sunshine encourages new growth, we too are encouraged to "get back out there" and turn some soil in God's Creation. The HOP community garden is always welcoming new ideas and helpers. After several years as dedicated VEAP gardeners, Sandy Jenson and Kim Houle would like to pass the pitchforks to someone new who may have a future vision for what this urban garden can be. Mow Lawns: Earn Money
The Senior Community Services HOME Program is hiring! We are a nonprofit organization helping seniors. We have an immediate need for people 16 or older to mow lawns this summer! Pay is $16 an hour. Mow lawns for older adults. Commit to the entire season, until fall. Provide your own equipment & transportation. Work with multiple senior citizen clients. For details contact Bethany Sapp

Women's Summer Bible Study at Oak Grove
All women are invited to attend our summer Bible Study sponsored by Lydia-Ruth Circle of Oak Grove Lutheran Church (7045 Lyndale Ave S, Richfield). The Bible Study will be on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the church. Light refreshments will be served. No preparation is required. The Bible Study is published in the Gather magazine, a publication of the ELCA for women. Copies of the study will be available at each session.
This summer's study is written by Anna Madsen who will present a three-part study on prayer.
Anna is a freelance theologian and proud mama to daughter Else and son Karl. She works with OMG: Center for Theological Conversation (omgcenter.com) and enjoys seeing the occasional moose and bear in their woods.
Session one: the paradoxes of prayer (1 Samuel 12:16-23) - (June 12)
Session two: the practices of prayer (Psalm 19:14) - (July 10)
Session three: the products of prayer (Romans 8:26-28) - (August 14)
