Dear FUMC Family,

This Sunday I will be preaching from Acts 11:1-18. In response to a vision from God, Peter did an unheard of thing!  He socialized with “unclean” people (Gentiles)! He ate with them, shared the Gospel with them and baptized them! Now he’s been called to task by the “faithful” in Jerusalem. How dare he violate Jewish customs! Yet, God was doing a new thing and because of Peter’s faithfulness, the church was opened to the Gentiles. The irony of this story is that today Christianity is a Gentile religion. The excluded minority has become a dominate majority. And the tragedy is that Christians often practice discrimination against others ignoring the message that all whom God has created are eligible to receive God’s grace and to be embraced as God’s children. I hope you will join us this Sunday as we explore what happened while Peter was “Up on the Roof!”

In Christ,
Pastor Debra

"Up On the Roof"

Acts 11:1-18
Questions to Ponder:

1.  How do we avoid or reject people who do not fit our understanding of who is acceptable (clean)?

2.  Where and how do we see entire people groups being rejected, discriminated against, and/or targeted? What should be the Christian’s response?

Thank You
The Trustees of FUMC want to personally thank the members of the Wesley, Allred, and Pathfinders Sunday School classes. Following the damage created by our leaking roof, these classes generously provided the money to repair their classrooms themselves. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Pentecost is coming on June 9, and what a Sunday it will be! We will be having ONE SERVICE at 10:30 PM in the Sanctuary with Sunday School starting at 9:30 AM. Along with celebrating the birth of the church, we will be celebrating our Graduating Seniors with a little “Pomp”. If that weren’t enough to get you going, we’re also going to be having Pie at Pentecost immediately following the combined service. Mrs. Myers will be helping the Youth Choir cook her famous chicken pie to support their choir tour this year. So that we know how much to prepare, reservations are required. Payment may be made at the door with advance reservation (Adults - $8, Kids - $4). Reserve your spot by contacting DP, filling out the form on the church website, or seeing a youth after any service on June 2. Don’t miss out on all of the excitement that will be Pentecost at FUMC!

Serve Your Church
Attention all FUMC family...it is time again to start filling in our volunteer calendar for our Good News and Daddy at the Desk workers. Good News is a time during each worship service that the children ages 3 - 2nd grade are allowed to slip away for some kid friendly worship. It only takes about 30 minutes of your time and lessons are provided. Our Daddies at the Desk provide security for our nursery during the 10:55 service, these special guys (or gals) man the front door and monitor the Education Building. We REALLY need your help with both of these jobs during 2019. Sign up for available times by clicking the buttons below. If you have any questions or want to talk more about it please contact Kim Myers. 336-889-3103
