PM Modi, U.S. Defense Secretary Mattis Pledge to Continue Strong Partnership

India and the U.S. have pledged to continue their strong bilateral strategic partnership, the Pentagon said after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on the sidelines of the International Institute for Strategic Studies' 17th Asia Security Summit in Singapore.




Govt. Sets Guidelines to Assure Safe, High-Quality Adventure Travel in India

In order to assure a safe, high-quality tourist experience in the booming sector of adventure travel, the Government has set new guidelines for operators. The aim is to help adventure tour operators understand execute safety procedures consistently in trekking, bungee jumping, paragliding and other activities.


 

Govt. Puts Protocol in Place to Speed Up FDI

The Government has put in place a detailed protocol for clearing all foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals in an effort to speed up approvals, bring greater transparency to the process and increase ease-of-doing-business in India.


 

India Urges Global Planemakers to Make in India

India wants to encourage aircraft makers to manufacture in the country, starting with components and moving eventually to complete aircraft, Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said. In a series of tweets, Prabhu appealed to Airbus and Boeing to participate in the push as part of the Government's flagship "Make in India" campaign.


 

Digital India: Village Gets Solar-Powered WiFi

In a major boost to PM Modi's "Digital India" program, Ghes village in Uttarakhand state has received its first WiFi connection - and it's run by solar power, advancing another of the PM's goals of boosting Indian reliance on renewable energy.

Reflecting Ties, U.S. Pacific Command Now U.S. Indo-Pacific Command

In an important symbolic move aimed at reflecting new national priorities, the Pentagon is changing the name of the Pacific Command to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. "Relationships with our Pacific and Indian Ocean allies and partners have proven critical to maintaining regional stability," Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said.


 
U.S. Capitol to Hold 1st Gathering of Indian Americans

For the first time, the U.S. Capitol will host Indian-American elected officials, leaders, philanthropists and some 80 community members running for elected offices in the November mid-term elections. Sen. Kamala Harris from California, the first Indian-origin person to be elected to the U.S. Senate, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address to the gathering. 

Make in India: Tata-Boeing Hyderabad Plant Delivers 1st Apache Fuselage

Tata Boeing Aerospace has announced the delivery of the first AH-64 Apache combat helicopter fuselage from its Hyderabad facility. "The delivery of the fuselage within a year of the facility being operational is a huge boost to indigenous manufacturing," said Sukaran Singh, Tata Advanced Systems CEO.



IBM to Invest in Tech to Predict Floods, Cyclones in India

IBM today said it will invest in technologies to predict natural disasters such as floods and cyclones in India, as part of a $30 million global program aimed at disaster relief. "The Indian subcontinent is highly vulnerable to cyclones, droughts, earthquakes and floods, affecting millions of lives and impacting the economy every year," IBM India Managing Director Karan Bajwa wrote in a blog post.



Congressman: U.S.-India Ties Are 'Natural Partnership'

The relationship between India and the United States is a "natural partnership" between the two Indo-Pacific partners, said Texas Rep. Mac Thornberry, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. "We share interests and concerns, including transnational terrorism and China's aggressive behavior in the region and around the world," Thornberry said.

Hyderabad to Get India's 1st Specialty Hospital to Tackle High-Risk Infections

Hyderabad will be the site of India's first hospital specifically designed to treat high-risk infections. It will be equipped with advanced facilities to treat infections such as swine flu, the Zika virus, Ebola, the Nipah virus and other dangerous and contagious diseases.
