District Works with Families and Businesses to Save During Drought
Rowland Water District to Help Customers
Save Water, Avoid Fines

Rowland Water District (RWD) will continue to work with its customers to find ways to save water. California is facing a sever drought and the state is taking a strong stance by prohibiting certain water-wasting behaviors and asking all residents to cut their use by 20%.

"We want our customers to know we're a resource for them," said Ken Deck, General Manager of RWD. "Saving water is incredibly important during this drought and we believe giving people the tools they need to save is the best approach." To read more click here.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Doty Bros has now installed 6,000 of the 15,000 feet of pipeline and has reached the top of Harbor Blvd. The construction has redirected its work from the top of Harbor Blvd. to Whittier Avenue. The pipe will now be installed uphill from the pump station (located on Whittier Avenue) to the top of the intersections of Harbor Blvd. and Wellington.

The 1,255 square foot building (located on Whittier Avenue) that houses the chemical injection equipment and 5 booster pumps to provide up to 10,000 gallons per minute (GPM) of water to our customers is under construction.

Encouraging Conservation Through Education

Rowland Water District's education program was developed to reach students from elementary schools through high schools. Since the start of the education program in November 2012, the District has reached over 2,000 students with classroom presentations.

Since August 2013, 59 classes from pre-k to fifth grade have participated in fun, hands-on activities such as the water cycle bracelet, states of water, water conservation BINGO, and tap water challenge.

Along with classroom presentations, students are urged to take the "Water Drop Pledge," where they promise to conserve our earth's natural resources. After signing the pledge, a "Star Water Saver" letter is sent to each student.

The District is committed to making these educational programs available to all schools in our service area. Educating our students is key to achieving our water conservation and educational goals and encourages them to become environmentally responsible citizens.
Emergency Preparedness
Water is vital to everyday life, necessary for health and should never be taken for granted. It is very important to be prepared BEFORE emergencies occur. Earthquakes, high winds, droughts and forest or brush fires are events that can create water emergencies. Learn how to shut off the main water valve to your house (see picture).
