THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER

What does the Book of Common Prayer say about Holy Baptism?  Holy Baptism is the full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble page 298

Curate's Corner

On the Fifth Sunday in Easter May 19, 2019 we have the opportunity as a community to participate in Holy Baptism at our 9:30am service. It is a joy for me to officiate Holy Baptism as a priest here at Holy Nativity. I am also honored when parents come and ask me to officiate at the baptism of their child. It is a sign to me that baptism still has meaning in our world today.

I believe baptism plants the seed of faith in the child. It is the responsibility of the parents, godparents and the Christian community to water and nurture the ways of Jesus Christ in the child. We do this by prayer and setting an example by living Jesus's way of love.

In baptism a covenantal relationship is established between us and God. It is not like a contract whereby there is some kind of give and take. The covenantal relationship with God is based on the boundless love that God has for us.

In baptism we share in Christ's death and we share in his resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has opened for us the way of eternal life. It is through his death and resurrection that shows us how much God loves us. As John 3:16 says "for God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." How wonderful it is to know how much God loves us. This coming Sunday let us all rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, his way of love, the love of God for us and a child that will be sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own forever.

Blessings,

Fr. Chris

Opportunities to Volunteer At Outreach Projects Island Wide

1.Prison Ministry: Leadership for this project is Fr. Kaleo Patterson and Pastor Haaheo Guanson. If anyone is interested in serving in this ministry, there is a backpack program, a prayer and bible study program ( which requires special training,) and a movement to bring Hawaii prisoners back home from Arizona. To contact the leaders for all of these programs, e-mail them at  kaleop@me.com

2. Justice reform program: Leadership for this project is Bob Merce.   mercer001@hawaii.rr.com      He needs a few legal experts to help him in his task of rewriting prison reform and bail, judging and sentencing guidelines.

3. Low income housing, affordable housing and homelessness: The good news is that the Legislative approved $200m for various housing projects, mainly around the rail stations. Supporting "Faith in Action" at  https://www.faithactionhawaii.org   would be very much appreciated.  Help is needed with preparation of food parcels, and the Tuesday luncheon at the Wally House project at St. Elizabeth's church.
