YOUTH COUNCIL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS; DEADLINE COMING UP
Teens in Grades 9-12 are invited to apply to serve as a member of the Riverton Youth Council for 2019-2020. Terms for members run from late Augusts to early July of each year. Benefits of serving on the Youth Council include: community involvement, leadership experience, service opportunities, social activities, and more! COMPETITIVE AND RECREATIONAL RUNNERS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN UTAH'S FASTEST
Utah's Fastest is a high-energy community and elite 1-mile road race open to any interested runner in the state! The ultimate goal is to determine the fastest 1-mile runner in Utah. An elite division is provided for runners competing to be named Utah's fastest runner, and an open division is provided for other runners wanting to best a personal record, race friends or family, see how they measure up with others in Utah, or run for fun.
MONTH 2: FAMILY DISASTER SUPPLIES & PREPAREDNESS ACTIVITIES
Get prepared BEFORE disaster strikes! Riverton City's Emergency Preparedness Committee is providing tips on what to purchase and what to do to help get you prepared over the next few months.

Purchase:
  • Canned fruit - 3 cans per person
  • Food for special dietary needs (enough for 3 days)
  • Toilet paper - 2 roles per person
  • Crescent wrench(es) for utility shutoff

Activities:
  • Conduct a home fire drill.
  • Check with your child's daycare or school to find out about their disaster plans.
  • Locate gas meter and water shutoff points and attach/store a wrench or shutoff tool near them.

HELP LIMIT MOSQUITO POPULATION BY REMOVING STANDING WATER
Mosquito season has begun and mosquito larvae have been found in our area. You can help by ensuring that there are no flower pots, buckets etc. full of standing water on your property. If you do have a pond please contact the Mosquito Abatement District at www.sslvmad.org for free mosquito fish or a mosquito briquette, which will reduce mosquito larvae.

NOTICE OF MUNICIPAL OFFICES
to be voted on in the
RIVERTON CITY MUNICIPAL ELECTION

November 5, 2019
 
A Riverton Municipal Election will be held to elect three Council Members to serve four-year terms. One nonpartisan Council Member will be elected from Council District 1, Council District 2, and Council District 5 on November 5, 2019. If necessary, a Primary Election will be held on August 13, 2019.
 
Each person seeking to become a candidate must file a Declaration of Candidacy in person with the City Recorder during office hours between June 3 and June 7, 2019, and pay a filing fee of $50.00.

20A-9-203 Declarations of candidacy -- Municipal general elections. 
  1. An individual may become a candidate for any municipal office if:
  • (a) the individual is a registered voter; and
  • (b)(i) the individual has resided within the municipality in which the individual seeks to hold elective office for the 12 consecutive months immediately before the date of the election. (2)(b) In addition to the requirements of Subsection (1), each candidate for a municipal council position shall, if elected from a district, be a resident of the council district from which the candidate is elected.

Riverton City Choice Awards for Excellence in Education

Town Days Parade Grand Marshal Nominations - Deadline Approaching!
Residents are encouraged to submit nominations for Riverton Town Days Parade Grand Marshal. Selection will be based on contributions to quality of life in Riverton, humanitarianism, personal achievement, service to the community, etc.

Nominees must be willing to serve as Grand Marshal and be able to attend the Town Days Parade on July 3. The deadline to submit a nomination is June 1, 2019.
Outstanding Citizen Award - Submit a Nomination!
Riverton City is excited to announce the creation of the Outstanding Citizen Award! The award is presented to Riverton residents who have made significant contributions to or had a significant positive impact on the community. The award is normally presented monthly at a Riverton City Council meeting.

Residents are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals for consideration of the award often. Selection criteria is broad, as contribution and impact can be measured or determined in many different ways. Things such as community leadership, community organization involvement, heroic action, humanitarian efforts, service, volunteerism, and even things like business success, personal or professional achievement, or recognition brought to the Riverton community as a result of an individual’s efforts.

Glass Recycling
A glass recycling collection bin has been placed behind City Hall for use as needed. Residents are encouraged to save their glass recycling items and deposit in the bin as needed. The bin is accessible from Park Avenue.

Landfill Disposal Vouchers Available
Disposal vouchers for the Trans-Jordan Landfill are available at the Riverton City Utility Billing Office at 12830 S Redwood Road in Riverton. The vouchers will be available until June 30, 2019. Limit of two per household.

Redwood Road Construction
UDOT began a large restriping project between 9000 S in West Jordan and 12600 S in Riverton on April 8. Crews are working in 1/2 mile increments starting at 9000 S and moving south toward Riverton. The project will restripe Redwood Road in this section to include three lanes on either side of the road. The project will disrupt traffic frequently through its anticipated completion in late May, so be sure to plan alternate driving routes. Click here for details.

Riverton City Cemetery expansion is almost completed. Watch for July print newsletter, published in the South Valley Journal, for exact dates. There will not be a preorder wait list.

Silverwolf Community Formal
Tickets are now on sale for the Silverwolf Community Formal, which takes place on Friday, May 15 from 7-10 p.m. The event features dinner, entertainment, and live music. To purchase tickets, or for details, click here.

Town Days Parade Entries
Applications are now being accepted for entries in the Riverton Town Days Parade on Wednesday, July 3. There is no cost for Riverton residents, businesses, or organizations. A $20 fee is charged for non-Riverton businesses and organizations to participate. Space is given on a first come, first served basis. Click here to download the application.

Welcome Quick Quack Car Wash!
Quick Quack Car Wash held a grand opening event on May 14. They are located at 2041 W 12600 S in Riverton. To celebrate their grand opening, they will be giving away 10 days of free car washes from May 15 to May 24, so feel free to stop by if you have a chance.

All are invited to attend Riverton's annual Memorial Day program on May 27! The American Legion Post #140 will be presenting their annual program. The program will include the honor guard, a 21 gun salute, and reading of deceased veterans buried in the cemetery. The program will start at approximately 11:45 a.m. Be sure to bring your own blanket or lawn chairs.
