Congratulations to students, parents, and staff on a very successful school year. It's great to see all of you grow as individuals and as a community of learners. We wish our 8th grade students the best of luck at Reedsburg Area High School; you are ready!
Work will soon begin on a new secure entrance to Webb Middle School and the installation of new lockers. This work is set to be completed by the beginning of school next fall and should not interrupt any summer operations in the building. Please don't let this stop you from visiting us during out normal summer hours.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our efforts to provide the best possible learning experience we can for our children!

Something’s always cooking at Webb Middle School. Here’s a peek of Mrs. Lavely’s 8th grade Life Skills students making apple pie roll ups. They are quick, easy, inexpensive, and super delicious!

The question of why it’s important to read a variety of literary genres often circulates among students in my classroom. My response to them is that reading literature that we don’t always identify with provides us with a fictional platform through which ideas and values are imagined and discussed. It’s through this staged art form that we gain understanding of the complexity and diversity of the human experience. The more fictional situations we read about, the more guidance we have in making decisions in our own lives. Through reading epics such as the
Iliad,
we question the qualities that make a character heroic. Through dystopian novels such as
The Giver
or
Animal Farm
,
we examine the qualities in characters that can lead to the creation of oppressive societies. When reading coming of age novels, such as
To Kill a Mockingbird,
readers are able to objectively examine the prejudices that occur in society. Yes, fiction should be read for enjoyment and entertainment, but it also serves the more important role of improving society. Through complex plots and character scenarios portrayed for us through the multitude of different genres, we are offered both guidance on how to conduct our own lives along with insight on how to shape society. One genre simply cannot cover all of the scenarios or situations that we confront in our lives. The more diversified our reading is, the more fulfilling our own lives will become.

Vietnam Veteran Visits Webb
|
|
Mr. Jim Wieczorek, who served as an officer in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, recently spoke to Mr. Simon's 8th grade social studies classes. He discussed his experiences, the challenges he faced, and the role he served while in Vietnam. When Mr. Wieczorek was asked about a proud moment he had in regard to serving he said, "I am proud to say I served our country." Mr. Wieczorek also gave valuable advice to students who had an interest of someday serving. It was a great day, shared by many. Thank you Mr. Wieczorek for your service, and thanks for sharing your thoughts with our students!

It has been a busy but wonderful year in the Counseling Office getting to know your children and helping any way we can. As the year wraps up and the summer gets rolling, we would like to share some final thoughts for the summer.
Being away from the regular school routine can be relaxing for some and a little more difficult for others. Students are used to seeing their friends on a daily basis and sometimes don’t get that same opportunity during summer months. Providing your child opportunities to reach out and continue connecting with peers can help keep them active and engaged, which will be beneficial not only now, but also in the fall as we return to school. Our local communities are full of great groups, activities, and celebrations with which students can become involved that will continue to spark their imaginations and help maintain their academic/social skills throughout the summer. For ideas and specifics, check in with your local library, consult the City of Reedsburg Recreation Guide book, join a club like 4-H or scouting, attend an outdoor concert, or find resources about individual interests on the internet.
Summer is also a great to time reconnect as a family, as it allows for more time to be together. Enjoy an outing together, plan a fun game night, watch a movie together, pack a picnic and eat outside somewhere fun, catch a ball game, visit out of town family or friends, and/or explore this great state we live in. Finding ways to share experiences with your children is likely to have a positive impact on them, as well as you. Lastly, enjoy this time with your family and look to strengthen the family bonds!
We thank you for your support throughout the past school year and are looking forward to reconnecting in the fall!

Now Available - Universal Free School Breakfast
Universal Free School Breakfast Program is now available to all students at the Webb Middle School every school day. No advanced registration is necessary. These supervised meals are nutritionally balanced and vary daily. School Breakfast is an ideal solution for busy mornings when kids are running late or parents have early work schedules. Oftentimes, kids are not hungry when they first wake up but are ready to eat when school begins. Studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast have better behavior, better attendance, and improved test scores.
